The Wreck

So I just read an article in Louisiana Sportsman about how hot the fishing was in Delacroix in the spring despite muddy water. Has anyone been fishing by the Wreck lately? If so, how did you do? What is the general outlook for Black Bay this summer?

Haven’t been recently but if you don’t have an I pilot trolling motor bring an extra anchor. The last time I went I came back anchorless lol.

What's the wreck? Is that near stone island? I went to Dcroix today and no live shrimp. Kinda strange with 4th of July. No boats at all launching either. Campos was packed.

Water is muddy, use stinky baits, either sprayed baits, gulp or dead shrimp. I am sure live would work to, but reds are not as picky as trout. Fish them under a good popping cork to attract them to your stinky bait. Spoons have been all but useless, it is the year of the popping cork.

I cut my teeth fishing Delacroix/Black Bay back in the late 70's and early 80's. My Dad used to take us out there in a 1964 Glassmaster 16' tri hull. We used to absolutely destroy the trout at the wreck and the big rig adjacent to the actual Wreck. FYI the Wreck is just that, a sunken vessel with some of the rigging exposed above the water line. I'm not sure if any of it is still above water. But there were so many other small structures and platforms around, that you could usually bounce around and put together a few "boxes" of trout (never used to keep count, went on volume). The only thing that would put a damper on success was if it was too rough or dirty water. If it was clean and decent tide, it was on.
