I wonder what the cost would be to rent one of those event tent for the weekend...
I did think of this, but?

Know how the weather people get there farcast right 100% of the time? They stick there head out the door just before they report. Other then that, they are wrong 90% of the time.

Two of these along with one I already have would work.
LINK
Would need to buy a couple 2x4x16' and a few 2x4x8's and some cheap rope.

about a fireworks stand sized tent I would imagine...20 X 40 minimum we could fit 8 building teams in that...a little cozy but that would be the minimum...20x60 would be ideal...I called locally to get an idea, but Here in slidell, la 20x60 for 1 to 3 days is $600 here in Slidell area...delivery(includes setup) is $1.50 mile each way...these large tents require they set them up...
I can't find any local to Fish's area and haven't heard back from the closest 2 to his area...
If it's not a driving rain, I could build mine under my campers awning...

I have a huge FEMA tarp as well...don't know the measurements...I will go do that now...
I live near a harbor freight if we need to go that route...

I could build a tent with those tarps for around $100. I think that will be the way to go.
Oh, heads up on the cost for the wood. Total on my end was $1320. That is for 10 boats which will be $132 each.

I have to run into Baton Rouge later and can buy them. We need to get them up before any rain if we go that way.

With the cost of glue and nails, cost is going to around $175 or so. Might have to add an extra $10 towards tent building fund.

Fish, you need a shade tent or 2?
Posted on 5/3/14 at 10:52 am to Pepperidge
okay...the tarp I have isn't near what I imagined it...
so if we don't get a tent we'll build one...when we figure out definitively I will go to Harbor Freight if need be...

7 day forecast does look like shite, so let's hope they get this one wrong too, but if it is raining I would think the glue would take longer to cure etc , so I agree with fish the more we can get done early the better, I ain't much of a carpenter but i make a half arse helper and i would be happy to give a few hours tomorrow to help prep

should I order two more pounds of the bronze nails...seems fish said 290 would be close... that way everyone can stay finish up with the same nails?
today(maybe Monday) would be the last day to get it priority mail from Jamestown Dist. for $40 shipped
I also have an ez-up in my camper as well
It looks like Cdaniel will be spending the night with me and my son Friday night at your place to avoid the same long drive...any other distance travelers need a place to bunk up, we can try to accommodate you...
We have a full and a twin in rear bedroom and a full sofa sleeper and a twin dinette bed...
Fish, do I need to bring any extra length of garden hose to hook up the camper to water...if not able to hook up to water, let me know and I'll fill up the fresh tank up for flushing the toilet using the sink etc...don't need sewer, cause it'll hold 75 gallons of black water...

That would be good if you could make it early. By afternoons, I get tired when I start running on empty.

You coming from BR?

Most set up on a friday and take down on a Sunday or Monday...if he could at least quote us a price today that would give us an idea if it will be financially feasible...or we will just do the tarps like Fish said as a backup...

Fish, you said that the pirouges would be about 13'6"" with 10" sides. How wide would they be? How stable as far as standing in it?
A little story about wooden boat building-- my great uncle built boats for a living in Morgan City. When I was a little kd we used to go visit from NOLA a couple times a year and I remember going in back of his house and seeing the boats in various stages of construction. When WW 2 broke out he was hired to work in the boat yards in NOLA that were building the landing craft and PT boats.
My uncle worked for my great uncle on weekends and in the summers when he was in high school, and when he reported to the Navy induction center and he told them that he had worked building and repairing wooden boats they sent him to the Pacific with an outfit that would follow the invasion fleets and repair the wooden boats that got shhot up and damaged. His skill was in such high demand during wartime that he was re inducted into the Navy during the Korean war.
My uncle built a 30 ft or so cabin cruiser from scratch. He kept in down in Venice and used it for fishing off the mouth of the river.
These two uncles were superb wood craftsman, they could build anything out of wood. Both have been dead for years but when they went, a tremendous amount of wooden boat building knowledge was lost forever.
