I won't be able to make it but PaddlePalooza is a good time. I HIGHLY suggest making a weekend of it, get there Friday night, head to the captains meeting, eat some food and hang out. The weigh in/raffle/winners announcement can sometimes run late so after fishing all day it's nice to just have a place down there to crash out. Fishing for a slam is alot harder than you'd imagine, good luck!

I have a camp on the island so I plan on making a long weekend out of it, prefishing etc.
I noticed all live bait is legal, is that common for their tournaments? I just joined the club this week

You have a camp down there? Need a new friend?
Live bait is allowed for PaddlePalooza and Fallin Tide, I think BCKFC will have one other live bait allowed tournament this year but someone can correct me. Generally most are artificial-only, all of LKFC's tournaments are for sure. The kayak launch in PAC does a small tournament series as well and I believe they allow bait used for every one of them.

So, propel is now effortless thanks to Crossfit. I used to get winded within one cove. I feel like I can pedal forever now. Oh, and yesterday(both are bigger than they look),

PP is the only traditional tournament that allows live bait. Every other BCKFC tournament is artificial only. LKFC's tournaments are all artificial as well.
The Masseys Fish Pics CPR tournament, which as a member you are eligible to participate in, also allows live bait. You can find info on that one on the site; it begins in a few weeks.

You ever have any issues with your propel squeaking? I took the whole thing apart and re-greased. Then took it out last weekend and it was still squeaking like crazy. Then I realized that it appears to be coming from the pedals. I bought some high quality bike pedals on amazon and I'm hoping that does the trick.

I did fairly well down there last summer.

My only wish is that the arms were shorter.

I can't wait for the summer. catching roadside fish is fun but nothing beats summertime trout
we will have to plan something at some point

I would like to do the catching of the trout.

I caught my first trout limit out of the kayak last summer, every single one on topwater. For about a month straight we caught trout pretty consistently, all on topwater, at all hours of the day, no matter what the temp was. It was a damn good time.

Paddlepalooza is a great tournament and as others have mentioned, getting a slam is a bitch, but with that many fishing it you usually get at least 10-15 guys with slams. With good weather for that tournament which is rare slams increase. It never amazes me how big some of the trout that are brought in. I remember a guy behind me with a solid trout that looked close to four. Then a buddy that was two spots in front of me had a 5+ pounder. Didn't have the heart to tell the other guy.
Like others said PP is the only tourny that allows live bait. This weather has really screwed up the fishing down there so it will be interesting to see how everyone does this year.
I love fishing topwater for trout. We've been doing really well on topwater out of Hopedale all winter long when the water temps are right. I bet the sulphur mines in GM have some nice trout right now.
As far as joining BCKFC, I encourage everyone to do it. The club donates a quite a bit to local charities. Getting discounts is a plus and you can get some intel that isn't posted on FB. I purposely do that sometimes for paid members. Also only members are allowed to win Angler of the Year and qualify for the BCKFC championship.

well that settles it, you are invited to the camp

will you be down there this year?
Posted on 2/16/18 at 9:47 am to Uncle JackD
Yea, but it just so happened the winds cooperated enough to make that the best launch every time I was down there. The beauty of LA1 is you can find protected place to fish just about regardless of the wind direction.
I'll be on the island next weekend, might do some roadside fishing if I don't have a boat.
