Where would y'all go on maiden voyage from Lafayette? I prefer saltwater.
Is da bay and shark bayou worth a damn for reds or Flounder?
TIA

Vermillion Bay, for probably 340 of 365 days a year, is generally pretty shitty, with the less shitty days being in the fall. You can head west but with the rain the Big Lake area has been pretty fresh. Or head east to Pointe Aux Chene or Cocodrie. I'd suggest trying PAC and launching at the kayak marina there, Eddie is good people and will try to point you in the right direction.
If you're in Lafayette check out the Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club, we're smaller than BCKFC but more focused on the western to southeastern fisheries that are a bit closer to Lafayette, where a lot of the BCKFC is focused on the fisheries more closer to BR/NOLA. Both are great clubs with good people always willing to help. We actually have a meeting this Tuesday and Pack and Paddle at 6pm if you'd like to stop in and check it out.
ETA: Lake Martin is also good for just a spot to get on the water and paddle around, very scenic but the fishing seems to be hit or miss.

When salinity is decent I really like Choupique Bayou. There are lots of Reds and Flounder. Right now there is too much Freshwater though.
PAC is probably the most popular but can get hectic if there is a tournament.

What's the lowest you want salinity in big lake for choupique to be any good?

I'm thinking of going Saturday. Maybe West Cove.

We went to vbay for a quick trip. Was a blast. My first time fishing from a kayak. Despite the weather, we ended up catching 5 keeper reds in shark bayou but dropped two in boat. I've got some kinks to work out with that
RTIC hard shell 20 was not a good choice

I use an AO36 Bag Cooler. Where did you launch?
