but is a pedal drive that much more worth it?
The drive, in and of itself, was not necessarily worth it. The fact that some types provide instant reverse means you can stay in one place almost like spot lock, and fish with both hands. It's particularly useful when fishing downwind.

It's pretty damn windy where I live quite often.

I've had the opportunities to purchase nice used paddle kayaks with many accessories for relatively cheap, but based on the suggestions in this thread, I believe I'm going to wait until a good pedal comes available.

I'm also considering buying a powered kayak. I've seen several NuCanoes with trolling motors included. But I really don't want to mess with anything electronic if I don't have to.

When I was buying, lithium batteries really weren't a thing. Now? I would probably look hard at one given my age.

What are the run time on those things and are they rechargeable?

My only experience with them is in my bass boat, so no way for me to compare. There would be massive weight savings, some space savings and longer run times plus faster charging. I am guessing there are Youtubers out there discussing them.

Came across this on Facebook just now. Don’t know if you’ll be able to see it.

That's a damn good deal if all that's wrong with it is a broken rudder line. I had a Titan 12 that had the same issue and it's a fairly easy job to replace.

I was about to come here to post that Titan. Seems like a really good value.

There’s also a Hobie Outback posted in that group for $1250. I personally don’t like the layout of those but I know some people really like them.

Anyone do any kayak fishing out of Coco Marina? May head down soon and fish north of the marina.

What are the top pedal kayaks on the market now? I'd be mostly fishing inshore, mostly marshy areas, and bridge pilings.

Anyone have a NuCanoe with a trolling motor on it? Those things are not that expensive and look to be tough. Lithium batteries are expensive, but they last forever.

There's a guy on the Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club facebook group with a 2016 Outback for $750. That's a hell of a deal.

Hobie’s Mirage Drive and Native’s Propel Drive are unquestionably the best I think. But there are a good bit of copycats out there for cheaper. It’s been a while since I’ve paid attention to what’s on the market, so I’m probably not the best resource to narrow down specific kayaks.

I’ve kinda just been browsing the internet over the last week and if I had an unlimited budget and had to make a purchase today I’d go with the Native Titan X 12.5’. And I’d trick that sucker out with graphs, lights, and a trolling motor. A man can dream.

ETA: That other Native Titan from the post above is already sold. I figured that wouldn’t last long.

I wish I kayak fished more. The newer slayer line looks fantastic.

They really do. I remember I always said if Bonafide put a pedal drive in I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. They've done that. Then the new Slayers came out and I changed my mind about the Bonafide.

When it actually comes time for me to get a new one it's gonna be a tough decision. And there may be newer and better options by that time.

Old Town makes some nice pedal kayaks too.

Anyone here trailer their kayak? The pedal rigs are too heavy to car top.

Anyone think it would be hard to cartop a Nucanoe Pursuit on J-style roof racks? I can lift 82 lbs over my head, but never in a 13',6" package.

I think it would be a huge PITA.

That’s about how heavy my Slayer 14.5’ is. I can lift it over my head but it’s awkward if you don’t have it balanced just right. It’s gonna be a PITA. That just comes with the territory.

I am sure I am going to get laughed out of this thread, but I’ll post what I’m currently considering.

One is a used Nucanoe with a barely used Honda small outboard and trailer for about $2,000.

The other is a used Nucanoe with a pedal drive and no trailer for cheaper (I think maybe $1600-1700.

I’m leaning towards the pedal drive for simplicity’s sake. No gas, no oil, no registration, no trailer upkeep, etc. Just pedal and fish.

Am I crazy?

That's the spirit of kayak fishing IMHO!
