Just wanted to throw up a quick Titan review after my first trip yesterday.

Long story short, I really loved it. It was very comfortable to fish out of, tons of rooms, and very stable. At one point I faced sideways and had both feet all the way to one side of the boat along side the drive and it did not tip over (6'3", 230LBS).

The speed is noticeably a little slower than the SP13 but still moves along at a decent clip. You won't win any races in her but I think the weight/speed sacrifice is worth the gains.

Turning radius...it turns on a dime. Much improved steering with the factory rudder over the SP13.

I'm really looking forward to more trips out in this boat.

Went to everything kayak yesterday and demoed the Titan. Since I can't realistically make a purchase until 2018, it was a huge mistake. Damn fine boat. I'm 6'4", 195. Could easily stand, turn around and walk to the back of the boat. Couldnt really get any speed in the pool but the little I was able to pedal, it seems like it will have decent speed. I love the rod holders. The back deck is enormous.

I'm about halfway to my target. I'm about to start selling random shite to raise enough money to buy one sooner.

An old guitar amp (Peavey Express 112), A bunch of random Aquarium stuff that I don't use anymore, some baby stuff we don't use anymore.... I'm sure I'll think of some more stuff.

I really need to go through my shop, I'm sure I can purge some crap from there.

I was wondering what the typical update pattern is for these kayak companies. Can you expect a new model each year or is it every few years? Trying to better plan my purchase whether it be to find a deal on an outgoing model or the latest depending on whats new. Ultimately, should I wait around for the end of the year if something is usually in the works to see what it may be?

Usually new models are first debuted at ICAST but don't hit the shelves until Spring/Summer of the following year. Local shops will often have demo kayaks and end of the model year sales to clear out old inventory.

While new kayaks come out every couple of years, once a certain kayak hits the market, they rarely make changes to it that amount to adding more than a few bells and whistles.

If you want to know whats coming next, following the different kayak companies on FB and Insta is the best way. They'll often release teaser pics and clips when they are working on a new boat.

Will any company have the stones to build a kayak like the Titan? How big is too big?

Thank you very much for your reply! I'm looking pretty hard at the Slayer Propel. I'm leaning more towards the 13, but open to learning more about the 10.

I would try out all of the pedal drives you can before settling on one. A few to look at:

Old Town Predator PDL, Wilderness Systems Radar, Native Slayer and Titan, Hobie Outback and PA, and the Jackson Coosa FD.

Any suggestions as to where would be a good place or event to get some time on some of these?

Depends where you're located. Most every paddle store will set up demo days every couple of months where you can test whatever you'd like.

Everything Kayak in Gulfport has a pool in their shop, you can float around but not really paddle any.

Pack and Paddle in Lafayette does demos every Saturday. You have to call them ahead of time, tell them what you'd like to test out, and they'll meet you on Saturday.

I'm over in Thibodaux, LA. I've heard of Pack and Paddle. I'll have to give them a try. Thanks!

Great people at Pack & Paddle. Thibodaux is a bit of a drive. So just call ahead if you want to test a certain kayak on a Saturday morning.

Or you can wait for one of their events and test a bunch of different yaks.

I'd also check out the Backpacker in Lafayette while you are in town. I got my Hobie Outback for a few hundred dollars cheaper there. But selection is limited to mainly Hobie.

Just a heads up, but this coming Saturday I will be at the Pack & Paddle demo day in Lafayette with my Native Titan for anyone in that area who may be interested in getting some seat time in it.

Yeah, I think you have to tell P&P by Thursday what you want to demo, because they load up the trailer Friday morning. I tested out about 5 different yaks the day I went.

I plan to be there with the Titan either way but call them up and put your name on the list to be safe.

I've done demos with them before. But the Titan is the only one I really wanna try. I'll call them and put my name on the list just to be sure.

Thanks
