naming your kayak?

I never heard of anyone doing this.

Is this a thing?

Naming boats is a traditional thing to do and kayaks are boats. It's not a common practice, but I've seen my share of named 'yaks.

I get that. I just have never seen or heard of anyone naming their kayak. I’m definitely not knocking it.

Long story, but let's just say I got the kayak due to a weird circumstance and it deserves a name related to said circumstance

I think we need to hear an abridged version of this story, at least.

For sure. I named my 15' flatback canoe the "Rouganoe". Need some lettering for that now that I think of it...

In a miraculous run I was able to beat a bunch of professional gamblers at their own game. Would never be able to do it again.

I might as well name mine "Heavy Motherfricker" because that's all I call it

Hobie dropped a new kayak today. I guess the Pelican Hydrive was cutting into their marketshare.

Mirage Passport

Length: 10.5
Width: 34
Weight: 65 (hull)/75 (fully rigged)
Price: $1,299

Its thermoformed and not rotomolded.

If you have a cart its not a problem. Plus there is always the Topwater if you are wanting to go a bit lighter.

They're really going for the throats on some of these companies still trying to get $1500+ for paddle kayaks.

I forgot to tell you I met 2 guys at West Cove on Saturday from Alexandria. They were both in new Topwater PDL's. That's a sweet little yak.

Agree that a great deal on a entry level PDL boat, does Hobie give you the option to add the 180 drive?

It'll probably be like they did with the Compass, when I bought mine it wasn't a factory option but dealers were allowing you to swap to the 180 for an up-charge but it varied. I've seen some dealers offering to swap for $200 and as high as $400.

This is literally the one weekend of the year I have to work. I haven't fished since our trip to BL. I may have forgotten how to cast.

Just saw the news about the Passport and first thought was this is Hobie telling Pelican

Wanna steal our drive design? We'll steal your price point.
