Down here the pedal yaks dominate the market. However, up north I'm willing to bet the paddle yaks sell more. Could be wrong though.

If that's the case they definitely screwed up.

It'll certainly cap the paddle yak market for sure, Old Town, Wilderness Systems, Jackson, etc all have/had paddle kayaks up around $1800, surely they can't sell well considering you can get a Compass for $200 more, the Pilot was $1800 but I've been told isn't that great, and now the Pelican is $1500. It'll all trickle down, never did I think when I started doing this that you'd be able to pickup used pedal kayaks around $1000, yet here we are.

I am not sold on this kayak but damn $1000 for a 10 footer pedal driven. That yak looks pretty cheap and that drive looks even cheaper but that price is nice. LINK

I think my next Yak will be either a PA14 or Big Rig HD. Go big or go home. Lol

I am guessing you meant to put the Big Rig FD...right? No way I would ever go back to a non pedal driven yak. I think YOURADHERE demoed the new Jackson drive and said it was very inefficient. I was pretty excited when they came out but when I read that I backed off. I have been very pleased with my Hobie so far. I have not had to remove my drive yet. When I get too shallow I just set the fins against my boat and I break out the paddle. I spoke to you a while back and at the time I was sold on the PA but I don't ever want to have to pull a trailer again to haul my kayak. I want to set it on top of my SUV and go. So far that has been the easiest thing I could have imagined and I don't have to worry about snapping another tongue on a trailer on these beautiful LA roads.

A more accurate review would be I thought it was a total piece of shite. If the one I tested for a day was an accurate example of the drive then I'd rather paddle, and I 100% mean that. I've been told the one I used was an early example and the current setup is better but I haven't tried one since.

It's called the Big Rig HD FD. I heard the pitch is adjustable.

Mama BFIV and I just bought our first yaks. Got two starter yaks for us and two for the grandkids (less than 200 bucks each). Will be using them in the smallmouth rivers here. Rivers are mostly shallow, lots of shoals, and rocks to navigate around. With so many rocks and shoals to go around and over, would it be a good idea to coat the bottom of these cheap, starter yaks with something like the Rhino truck bed protector? TIA

May I ask what you paid? Was it the floor model at the show?

$3000

I picked mine up at their shop in mid city. Supposedly that was only other one they had left besides floor model because I wanted ivory but all they had were the 2 papayas
