Yea if someone slows and idles by the right way, it's pretty flat. Half the time though they still throw a huge fricking wake.

If someone is passing me, either slow down to idle far enough before you get to me and actually idle, or stay on plane at 70+.

And, the only place I've ever had people blow by me on plane at what I thought was too close was in the spillway, on a tournament morning. And they were passing us close enough for me to jump into the boat if I wanted to.

I'm just going to hop in here real quick and give my CSB.

Got to a duck hole very early one morning and setup. Well, about 30 minutes before daylight these two assholes show up and commence to bitch us out saying that this is their hole, blah, blah, blah. I tell them that I am not leaving. They then begin to set out there decoys alongside ours and finally come and park there boat directly in front of us, I can literally hear their cigarette lighter strike. I try to reason with them, but they are not having it, I then get into name calling and heavy cursing. You know what frick it, I'm out. I walk out into the decoys to pick up mine, but as I'm picking up mine I threw every single one of theirs as high up in a tree as I could. Get back in the boat still fuming mad and get out into the ring where we ran over there robo with the boat and went on about our way. If I would have known which truck was his at the landing I think I would have set it on fire.

Have not been back in that lake since.

I'm leaving work in exactly 30 minutes, and then me and DeesNuts are gonna go catch more crabs than a $2 hooker.

LOL at how that sounds

Kinetic energy is irrelevant. Potential energy is what you need to be talking about. A boat going 30 displaces more water, therefore adding more wave height (potential energy) to the wake..

Wait, so wave height is a produce of potential energy? Yeah, I'm the dumbass.

There has to be potential energy for there to be kinetic energy

These guys want to totally ignore this part of my statement to attack the wake strawman.

It was understandable, but we got all the way to the right of the channel without running in the grass, and most boats would go to the left as the passed us. Every 3rd boat or so would stay directly in the middle and the fricking bottom would fall out when that wake hit us, since they were basically on top of us. Those are the guys I'm mad at.

You should have stopped at displacement

So the potential energy of the gasoline caused the wake? You have your shite completely backwards. Kinetic energy is needed to create potential energy. I've never seen a rock move to the top of a mountain without some sort of work input.

You throw a pretty significant wake at high speed, its just very elongated and almost parrallel to the direction of travel. It also dies out very quickly.

At idle almsot no boat will throw a wake of any signicance.

MY beef is you blasting by me is dangerous if you cant do it far away. The only time i get mad about a wake is the half throttle plow by. That is just stupid. Now you cant see worth a damn, youre goin kinda fast, and you're gonna make me quit fishing and hold on for my life.

There is no strawman. This is a wake discussion.

Never saw where you mentioned that or we would have agreed. I thought you were the pow pow on the dock spokesperson

ETA: my post from another thread

Ive learned in south la you fish/run alot smaller channels, so my idea of close and yours might be different. I stay on plane if I can pass safely, but rarely get closer than 50yds from another boat.

I hated physics. Can we stop this?

If you're on plane and it's a relatively large channel, please stay on plane. If it's a small canal, please idle. If it's an inbetween size, I won't be mad at you either way, but just swerve to the opposite side as you pass.

No, you really don't.

True, but 3 distinct problems with that, 2 of which cannot be avoided.

No one here is advocating dangerous activity.

BTW, I would avoid Saline and Spring Bayou if I were you
