I had no idea...

quote:
Horton, known as “The Singing Fisherman,” was a star of the Louisiana Hayride in 1952 and often entertained the crowd with casting demonstrations where he would sink his lure in a cup being held across the stage.
quote:
When Horton was not performing, he could be found on the Cane River and other fishing spots in the Natchitoches and Northwest Louisiana area.
The plant manager, Ken Johnson, said Natchitoches was chosen as the location for the business because “it is the land of the Cane River and an excellent fishing place.”
quote:
In his 1997 autobiography, entitled “Cash,” Johnny Cash wrote, “When they called him ‘The Singing Fisherman,’ it wasn’t a catchy gimmick. If it needed to be three inches from a stump across the river, that’s precisely where he would put it. He was the best. He could put that bait exactly where he wanted it. Ole Fireball, he called it, and indeed it was a ball of fire. That thing drove bass crazy; they just couldn’t stay away from it. He and I hauled in droves of them the last few times we fished together, and the same thing happened to everyone else who tried it, too.”

That is so awesome. Now I will begin my quest to track down an original Ole Fireball. What a great name by the way.

The one that Bass pro makes now is killer on schooling bass. I've owned lots of tail spinner baits in my life and that one is the best I've used. Body looks like a little bream.

with just a little bit bigger body, I bet trouts and reds would slam the shite out of that thing. Hell they'd prob eat it like that.

You salt guys are always kinda slow to co-opt our baits. I'm sure it will happen soon enough.
