how do you transport those things? turn them sideways or angled on the trailer? at 131", thats 29" over legal standard road width limit

They know how to turn their head to maneuver in, out and around things if you give them time. Our old bull was 74.5". Here is a gif of him getting out of a 72" trailer.
These steers are approaching double the width, but they still get in and out.
Also, I love that gif. I made it from the first video I ever saw of Gumdrops. He was living down on the border. I told myself if I ever got the chance I would buy him. It worked out and I was able to buy him 2 years later.

So its total width, not length of the horns I guess? They measure just straight across from tip to tip basically?
ETA: And what a cock block, this guy barely let the other one get a good nut or two off before he broke it.
ETA2: dang forgot they were steers.

Tip to tip (ttt) is the main measurement. Total horn is the length following all the way along the horns plus the circumference of each base.
ttt lets you know how wide, total horn is more important on twisty horned cattle.
This one you want to know ttt...
This one you'd want to know total horn...

What's the realistic spread on a free range longhorn back in the day?

Do their horns continue to grow as they get older or just stop at some point.
