wonder how many 7+ lbs. bass they fileted?
WTF wouldn't you eat what you catch? You think I'm mounting a fish? I'd filet that fish as fast as I caught it.
It's like saying a 6 yr old buck shouldn't be killed. frick that. Kill, catch and eat them frickers. Age shouldn't matter.

Trashy. You should stick to carp, gar, buffalo, and catfish.

Man I get the law and the natural resource. But I also understand that's a lost way of life. That's decedents of the old Cajuns. Good read sad story all the way around. Gotta feel for that old simple lady it broke her heart to see her way of life be deemed wrong and turned upside down.

I read the article and it basically translates into this. A trashy Louisiana family who sold turtle meat got greedy in the 70's and 80's and decided to poach the frick out of Louisiana's snapping turtle population. Once they realized they couldn't catch as many turtles they decided to invade Texas waters where the turtles were protected and flourished. This lady became the Carol Baskin of the snapping turtle world and attempted to build a turtle sanctuary in her own back yard where she could breed them, harvest their eggs and hatch them and profit off of the bigger turtles. So the feds were only prosecuting her for illegally taking turtles from Texas and transporting them to Louisiana and profiting off of them. Had she done this with turtles harvested in Louisiana, would she have been in as much trouble?

You wouldn't want to fish with me. I'm not in it for the sport. I'm in it for the taste. If you want to be snob that throws everything back do it. I'm the one that'll eat what you throw back and laugh about it with a belly full.

Are snapping turtles better to eat then softshell and others?
No. Softshell taste the best but you don't catch them as often. Yellow belly is really sweet but not much meat. Snappers are loaded with meat so that's why you find it in stores. More bang for your buck with snapping turtles. They all eat good though and I'd never throw a turtle back unless it's too small. 100lb turtle is definitely getting cleaned and eaten.

You are a douche. I don't go outside to look at flowers honey, I go to catch and kill food.

There are still a lot of Alligator snapping turtles in Louisiana if you know how to catch them, trust me.

Sweetheart you don't strike me as a "sound management" kind of guy.

Plenty of fish toots. I eat them. You can manage to keep giving the rest of us your fish you throw back.

Man, I got some monster soft shells behind the fish cleaning station… look like a half submerge tire rim.

Eat one. You'll be catching the rest.

I can remember my grandfather having two 55 gallon barrels on side on his house...One barrel filled with frogs and the other with turtles...He would feed both with dog food until ready to eat...This was late 60's...And yes he lived in Evangeline, La...And yes the first oil well in Louisiana is still producing...

It’s amazing how long they can survive between meals.

I'm a Dietz...Called my dad on information..Roland was my paw paw nephew known as Cop Cop...They lived north of Iota,La...My dad said his uncle Eddie, I think Cops dad, still spoke with an German accent...My dad remembers they didn't work butt always had money...And I can remember my paw paw first language was German, French, and then English for us...

My ancestors are French, and my roots as Cajun as they come. I know a lot of German Cajuns too. My guess is these people settled in a community like Robert's Cove and quickly adopted the local culture.
I also know many Broussards and Boudreauxs who don't have a real Cajun bone in their bodies

Why would you mount a 7+ pounder? Or eat one?
Taxidermy shops can do a mount for you without the fish if you give them measurements.
I’ve had one bass skin mounted in my life, 11 lb, 8 oz, caught in 1983.
Released I can’t tell you how many 7+ lbers caught at Santee Cooper or the Cooper River.

Agree with this. It's the only one that tastes different from other turtles to me. You just don't get much meat off a softshell in comparison to a snapping turtle.
