federal fusion

It’s what I use in .270. I’ve used sst’s before but had a bullet just exploded at 80 yards and only wounded the buck. He was killed a month later found limping around…sucks.

I think this is because the bullet is moving too fast at that range. The sst probably needed a chance to slow down.

Fusions have been good out to 350. Some bullets need to slow down to fully expand out and are best used at longer ranges.

Good points. A good marksmen will get good results from any projectile. I base my opinions on experiences with bullets my young hunters use.

you can't compare other calibers or ammo to a death ray. It's basically the hand of God coming down to call that deer home.

I used 117gr in .25-06 for a few years. The only exit i got was a base of skull shot. It was effective but I did lose a doe to the buzzards due to lack of an exit or blood.

Its just another example of a bullet that is prone to coming apart at high speed impacts. They must be pretty thin jacketed.

I’ll be adding in here this weekend my results and opinion on the 115 grain Barnes tac tx. Shot a 175lb buck with it last weekend out at 200 yds

I don't have enough data points to make many conclusions. For .45 cal saboted rounds, I've had hollow point 300 gr pass throughs consistently, and with 250gr SST 6/7 passed through with big exit wounds, the one that didn't was more than quartering toward me. All the guts.

30-06 150gr Winchester deer season XP plastic tip knocked a doe over with pass through at 40 yards, she didn't get up.

6.5cm - just one data point with this one, it's a new gun. 125gr copper with plastic tips - broadside 20 yards, it had a big exit wound but I think it also fragged and thus shredded guts.

Thats way too simple and logical. If everybody shot a 308 with a core lokt we would have to find something else to argue about. Thats no fun.

Lol that's the truth..

That is what I shoot.

135 pound doe, broadside. 7mm-08 shooting 139 grain hornady SST. Bullet was a mushroom against the far side hide. Never saw blood on the ground, but the doe was laying out there at about fifty yards. Jury is still out on that bullet for me. I’ll probably try to get some Accubonds for it.

Get rid of those 139 sst...

For 20 yrsI've shot 7mm08 federal w/140 nosler partition is a fricking deer killing round.

Several years back I bought 2-3 boxes of those those Hornady 139sst , because they're hot for a 7.08 ...had same thing happen on 2/3 bucks(bullet still in hide), no blood trails on all 3... i went back to federals but the140 accubonds (no complaints with accubond but the partition kills better IMO

Well found the leftovers box of the hornadys last year in the back of our ammo cabinet, guess I forgot why I shoved in back, didnt have enough feds so decided to use them, shot 1 buck, knocked him down in field, I thought he was dead, fricker got up after a few minutes, ran off and we didn't find blood or deer. Reminded me why I had put that box up. I'll never shoot them again..
