Use a circle hook, that’s probably why you didn’t hook up on those other bites.

Looks like a nice day of fishing anyway.

My go to terminal tackle.

Sand Fleas if you can find them. Fish bites work. I always miss the pompano. Not sure this time of year

Don’t go to a J hook. They do sell smaller circle hook pomp rigs. I also like using the small wide gap hooks on rigs. Sometimes you have to stick and move down the beach. Sometimes just moving a 100 yards is all the difference. What size weight are you using? I go with at least a 2oz and sometimes 3oz pyramid weight.

Catch Sand Fleas

watch this or similiar videos on how to identify sand fleas in the surf and how to catch. We been doing it for years. once you get the eye for them, you always are on the lookout. Its amazing that you never notice them there before all those years.
I have caught them with my hands, the little kiddie nets, and with a rake. Use that and a pompano rig like stated above. Cast as far as you can and let it sit. Place rod in PVC pipe holder and sit back and drink a beer. Speaking of using the PVC in sand, check out this quick tip...

The last two times I've been there were no sand fleas. Didn't see any until we went to sea shore with no development.

We always stay closer to the jetties, and they are usually everywhere.

What do yall know about a red tide here? Local lady told me it's here but can't find anything official to corroborate it.

Zero nibbles this afternoon. Nada.

Last afternoon. Not a nibble since day one. Flat water. Fishing dark spots. Never been skunked like this before. Not even a stingray or shark or trash fish. Dead sea.

Double hookup on ladyfish while reeling in the last cast of the day. One of the hooks wasn't even baited. At least I didn't get skunked.
