I've seen really old photos (like black and white) of them off them being caught out of MS Coast
Once the fish make it to Mississippi they arent as predictable because theyre no longer hugging the coast.
Juvenile Tarpon are brought from offshore into local estuaries by from tides, current, and offshore winds. They hang around for years.

I don’t ever recall people finding them in water shallower than 10 -15 feet in the old days
They are a lot more plentiful around here in deeper water. I'm also not convinced that the ones in the lake migrate anywhere. Some folks have been sight fishing them in shallower water for years though, particularly in Mississippi. I wasn't trying to be a dick or be that guy - there just isn't a whole lot about fishing in our area that everyone doesn't already know, so it'll be very difficult to find info about this online.
we good... I think lake p and b get way to cold for them in winter.

I just got back from Carrabelle FL which has a somewhat similar environment to here. 3 days 2 shots no hook ups its frustrating
you're either fishing in the wrong place, at the wrong time, or need a better guide.

Thats what makes them so fascinating. They used to come inshore in SWLA/Cameron but the pogey boats pushed them offshore which is where they stay now.

That's a cool graphic. What drives the migration? Mullet? Breeding? both?

I was told I was about a week or 2 early. But yes the secrets to the mythical tarpon here in Louisiana are guarded harder than the president

Tarpon should start rolling through perdido, orange beach, and gulf shores any day now. Buddies have been going regularly and seen a few rollers, but no consistent schools yet.

I two Tarpon in Lake Ponchatrain last week. One was about 70 pounds and the other was in the 140-160 class.
