As far as my knowledge, they had the problem going all of the way back to '95

Just got an Old Man Emu 3" lift with Deaver rear spring packs. About the only definitive way to get rid of the squeak.
Awaiting arrival of my ARB bumper.

Do you ever go to Tacoma world?
There are some really good fixes, but the best I know of is gluing innertube pieces between the springs.

Take a bicycle inner tube and cut it into long pieces. Pry the leafs apart and slide the cut sections in between them.
this. this is all you do, no more squeak.
I have a 2007 with 150,000 miles and it looks nicer than most 2012s.

there are teflon pieces between the springs that need to be changed. easier to just jack up one side of the rear at a time and grease them that way between each spring.

And here's where you will find them. LINK

Toyota has a fix for this problem. They have gone to a different material for the spacers. I believe the new ones are rubber, rather than plastic. I had a 2011 that was out of warranty, but I got the dealership to switch my spacers to the new material for free. Newer Tacomas should not experience this problem as they already use the more rubbery spacers.

Mine squeaked and then one cracked and fell out of the cluster. I never replaced it and I get a loud pop sound now and then with the squeak. 97 4WD Taco ext cab. 186K.
