Im getting back into bird hunting and want to get a browning superposed. I grew up hunting with my grandfather's superposed. The guns Im looking at have various choke combinations and barrel lengths.
Does anyone have a general idea of what these various barrel lengths and choke combinations were intended for?

Its one of those things you can either not care too much about or nerd out on big time.

Generally longer barrels are best for wingshooting and upland hunting. They tend to swing better. Short barrels are best for field hunting like rabbits where youll be walking through the thick stuff and point shooting more. They carry easier and dont hang up on everything.

With chokes, full=tight (long range), modified=general use, improved cylinder=open (close range or steel shot)

Thats the quick and dirty of it. A good general combination is 28" barrels, modified over improved cylinder. Its not perfect for everything, but it is plenty good enough for everything

Barrel length is personal preference, the current trend is that longer (28"+)barrels are more desirable.

upland game birds such as: quail, pheasant, snipe, dove, grouse, woodcock, chukkar, etc...

OP, a 28" barrel will be the most versatile as you should pattern each choke since they have a different constriction. You will use different chokes based on what species you're hunting. Some will use a MOD on the top barrel, and FULL on bottom barrel and adjust the "trigger selector" to determine which barrel fires first

28” barrel length in Full and Modified.

Best all around combo and won’t specialize so much that it’s hurts resale value if someone wants to sell it later on.

Superposed pieces I guess average about $2000 but it depends on Original condition and gauge.
They can skyrocket depending on quality and originality due to Collectors

Quail, Chukar and Pheasants.

I would also like to shoot sporting clays.

I really appreciate the input. Thanks

if you held a gun to my head i couldn't tell you what chokes are in my barrels.
it's not that important as long as you wait for good shots

My o/u is 26” barrels. The gun is pretty short but man is it fast.

It has choke tubes put I pretty much always keep improved and mod in it.

Hard to beat an O/U, but my FILs Browning A-5 20 gauge modified is hard to beat. 28 gauge is getting popular with some.
