I really wish LWF could somehow regulate the private boat launches of the state. For a state that calls itself Sportsmans Paradise, the condition of many of our boat launches are pathetic. I fish in the southeastern part of the state and many of the boat launches are truly an insult. I launched out of Beshel's the other day; the backdown is poorly maintained (in fact no one was even there to collect money until I returned), and the partially sunken concrete railings could cause severe damage to boat. I will not return. Lake Amadee is a great place to fish, but Reggio Marina is also a poorly maintained facility. Some of the launches in St. Bernard are well run you have to back down off the main roads to put your boat in the water. No one that I know of even operates a hoist in my immediate area; I fish alone quite a bit and am getting older. This would help quite a bit. Many of the launches along Paris Rd. and the Chef are absolute dumps. I know there are some nice launches out there, but there should be some standards for the operation of marinas.

The worst is Beshel's. I understand they make their money renting slips and selling fuel to commercial fisherman, but they have an enormous amount of land and have great access to inside and Black Bay fishing. This piece of land could be transformed into a first rate marina for recreational guys too. The current owners do not give a damn. I have damaged my fiberglass finish at Reggio on the pitiful bulkheads.

Absolutely, we need more government oversight of private property. GFY

pre-K was it's prime. We won't see Beshel's like that ever again, not while Mardi gras pass is kept open. Most of the guys or big money down there have private launches on back levee canal. Beshel's is/will be, at most, a live bait destination. He;s done a decent job with the store inside...impressive to say the least.

I kind of like their back down ramp. It keeps the lines down. Just one of the perks of having a dry launch trailer.

To Shawnlsu,
There are many laws on the books for regulating private property. For example, I'll bet that if you own a nice house, you wouldn't want someone to throw up a trailer next to it. You conduct yourself like one of the mindless followers of Gov. Jindall. Before you accuse me of supporting Obama or harboring illegal aliens, let me say that I am a conservative. That is why I refrain from telling people who are trying to make a point to GFY.

Is that a real law. No trailers next to houses?

Plenty law breakers out there.

Maybe from a HOA.

I agree there are some sucky launches out there. But I don't see how LDWF oversight could do anything about private property. Just find another launch.

Just to high-jack this thread: Why didn't boat launch lifts make a comeback?

My old timer coworkers talk about how before the hurricanes, there were a lot of lifts. I know nothing about them but they say they were all over because the "launch" just needed to be a parking area near water with no bulkhead/ramp/etc to maintain. Trailers never touched salt water so they lasted forever. I know there would be a lot of liability but I still see that there would be a market for them with the right waivers.

I disagree. I want government involved in less shite.

Let the free market work. If the launches are that bad someone will see the need and create a new one, which will probably be more expensive.

Mardi gras pass is SE of Beshals, jsut continue down back levee canal and you'll know it when you are close. It's a class 3 rapid which dumps fresh water into the marsh from the Mississippi river. You can actually drive up if you approach through bohemia>Point a la Hache levee rd. It's wher ethe road ends. It's a pretty gnarly site to see.

The fishing in Black bay, trout specifically, have show a decrease. We used to hammer them before they blew a hole in the levee.

On the plus- Fresh water cats in oak river the size of VW vans.

The one we use is only bad at very low tide. Can't blame him for not fixing it since no one pays the 5$ fee.

I've never heard of a law that states trailers are not allowed next to houses. Could you link that law please, I'd love to read up on it. In my neighborhood it's definitely not allowed but that decision and restriction was put in place by the homeowners in the neighborhood, not the government. We need much much less government involvement in our personal lives and private affairs, whatever they May be.

I personally don't think that the LDWF needs to regulate private boat launches. IMHO the new launch that they had constructed in Leeville leaves much to be desired.
