Because of taste?

Damn right. Woodrows generally are a mast eating duck when they get a chance, meaning they eat acorns. They also will eat rice or millet or other seed producing plants which is also good. Greys are not so picky and will eat off the wall shite like duckweed, which is all over those cypress brakes up in Arkie land. So, Woodrows will generally out taste a Grey where you hunt. Plus, your original post sounds like you want the best quality ducks for those tailgate pics and Wood Ducks look 10 times better than Greys so like I said, reevaluate the selection process.

The new ducks that came with that big front have already gotten smarter. Today was the first time we haven't limited in the second split.

I talked to a biologist that was tracking a pintail last year and he would fly from Bradley, AR to Klondike, LA every day. Every.single.day

Start to a great second split by gumbeaux Not trying to be a Debbie downer.....I am so spoiled up here in Arkansas hunting flooded timber. We will not shoot shovelers, teal, ring necks, woodies, etc. We consider those as scrap ducks. We also pass on mallard hens although accidents do happen. It is only greenheads and gray ducks for us.

Dude, you're so full of shite. I've hunted the timber about 15 times in Arkansas on Bayou Meto and the White And Cache rivers and never seen any gadwall killed. You don't pass up woodies anywhere idc who you are. Also, since you can only kill 4 mallards and I KNOW you don't kill grays in timber, what are your other two ducks for the 6??? Smh...

That makes sense though. I've hunted both areas. I'm sure when I was in one place he was in the other.

Actually a LOT of people that hunt timber up there do not shoot wood ducks and get mad when people shoot wood ducks. The point of hunting timber in Arkansas is to shoot mallards. It's hard o get mallards to work when everyone is shooting wood ducks at daylight. Can go anywhere and shoot wood ducks.

lol at the downvotes. Ask an Arkansan that hunts public timber about shooting wood ducks It's frowned upon

I can't disagree with this since my in-laws farm in AR and some of them are like this when they hunt their timber. They generally don't shoot Woodrows unless times are tough but the poster that started this hijack was basically putting a Grey over a Wood Duck, which is just silly.

I agree the gray over woodie is silly. Wood ducks and teal are tops for me table fare
