Research shows that in March turfgrasses, such as St. Augustine, centipede and bermuda, undergo spring root decline. At that time much of the old root system dies and the grass grows new roots. So turfgrasses don’t have substantial root systems during March, even though the grass blades are beginning to grow.

Found an app that helps with plant ID. A lot of it is based on the flower of the plant so it struggles with plants not int he flowering stage.
I did get it to ID bluegrass through a picture, but you have to scroll through the suggestions.

My biggest weed is not shown in this thread yet. Don't know what it is. Makes a purple flower and is easily pulled i soft soil. Roundish leaves. I see it all over the place.

That's hen bit. It dies out with heat and is easy to control with 2,4-D or other broadleaf killers.

"Bobcat Method" for rattle snake weed and "hack and squirt" for Chinese tallow catch people off guard when he initially says it.

Is this torpedo grass? Top pic is the green end, bottom pic is the rest of it, when you pull on it is rooted about every inch TIA
Almost positive that all of that is (good) St. Augustine grass that died back due to cold/freeze, and is growing back. The rooting you describe is how it grows, too.
Look just like my front yard about two weeks ago. It's back to mostly green now, brown thatch is underneath and decomposing.

I've been using a 2,4D product with quinclorac this Spring to knock back mostly lespedeza, henbit, clover, and chickweed in a bermuda lawn in a house I've only been in for a year that the previous owner didn't take too much care of the lawn.
It seems to be working, but the label says not to apply more than twice a year, and also says not to use when grass is coming out of dormancy.
The grass seems to be coming out of dormancy now... as are the weeds starting to really pick up. Will it really kill my bermuda if I keep spot-spraying the new weeds?

The last picture shows a lighter grass/weed? What are these sprouts....grass and or weeds? If it is grass should i let it grow or pull it. If it is weeds I assume they need to be pulled? I did apply a granular pre emergent in late January.
Dawg country is right about the top pics (the clumps) being bluegrass, but pretty sure your last pic is the Bermuda grass greening back up for the spring. Here is a pic of a Bermuda grass sample, looks very similar to yours:

anyone have recommendations on sethoxydim or MSMA products? Looking to kill some dallis grass. Willing to give this a try before I resort to taking a shovel to it.
Posted on 3/2/18 at 11:13 am to Geaux2Hell
I've used Hi-yield grass killer, which is sethoxydim.
I've never used MSMA, but I have heard that it produces good results.

My home lawn is centipede, so I use the Hi-yield grass killer like pointdog. For dallis in Bermuda, I use a combination of Certainty and msma.

Bootleg, can you find that high yield at Home Depot or Walmart ?

Hi-yield products can be found at most hardware stores.
Looking for sethoxydim as active ingredient is the key. Hi-yied is just a brand name.
