Since Walmart started carrying just about all of the oem filters a few years back that's what I use.

I use Wix filter for the most part. If I see a sale on a premioum fitler like K&N, Bosch, Mobil 1, etc I'll purchase that filter instead. On my old truck I'll the cheapest filter I can find not named Fram. I prefer Supertech when I can find them in stock.

I also had a K&N filter leak. Never had a filter leak in my lifetime of changing oil, but a few months ago I tried a K&N filter in my Sierra.
Good to see I'm not alone. I love K&N air filter products (I have their CAI on my Yukon) but their oil filters just haven't been great for me.

I've used Mobil 1 10k filters and oil for a while and have great results from my oil analysis samples. GM 5.3L
Do tell more.

OEM always. Unless you're servicing equipment, the price difference is negligible.

I do the samples through Blackstone Labs. They send you a small container in the mail with prepaid postage and instructions. Basically you send them 3 oz of oil from the "middle" of the oil change and they run their tests on it. The whole deal costs about $25 and I plan on doing it maybe every 25k miles or so.
You'll get a list of about 25 trace elements PPMs and other properties like viscosity, %water, %fuel, %antifreeze, etc. Once you get multiple tests in, it will show trends in you oil and they'll write a few comments on what they think is going on.
For example, if you saw a bunch of aluminum, that could be your pistons. Too much silicon might be a gasket issue or antifreeze. You can also check the oil additive levels and decide if you want to extend oil change intervals.
