When it happened to mine, my very handy step-father-in-law, cut a piece of countertop in the exact shape of the tear(about the size of a round patio table) and somehow glued it in. I was shocked at how well it matched.

Great post. I’ve rented some comparable vehicles in recent years. Such an easier experience. I’d never consider buying new or used.

Only 6mpg on a 31 footer doesn't seem very good? I get in the mountains but I'm surprised you couldn't do better than that here in the southeast going 60 or so on flat ground? Maybe a diesel would have been better? Of course the purchase price and maintenance and fuel may have been more?

Its not very good but it is what it is, 10 cylinder ford engine in a high wind resistance box weighing 22000 lbs.
stopping for gas. in the Yukon , Canada for a 70 gallon fillup, 6 bucks a gallon for 420 $ gas tab

I have a genuine question for you - Based on your overall net expenses, what value do you think you got out of the RV over the 1000 nights. If I read it right, you spent 110,000, recouped 16,000, so you spent about $94 a night for 1,000 days worth of vacation? Seems like you got your money's worth.

Yeah, but you had to stay in a motorhome.

Genuine response....We got great value. The last 20 years I worked was in the Middle East, far east, and Puerto Rico . Family with, much of the time. We loved the travel. On retirement, we decided western US and Alaska were really what we wanted to do. Wife is a polio survivor, and I rigged the necessary lift for her access . the great big windshield was our picture window, rv was our house avoiding packing and unpacking each night into a hotel.
For the great outdoors pitch, had bears on road reaching paws up, salmon fishing, halibut fishing, 24 hour daylite above the arctic circle on the haul road, Yellowstone, Moab off-roading , Terlingua where hippies go to die, Large phased dish array in New Mexico, tended biker bar in north west Montana, woke up to elk bugleing, wild deer and mallards 30 feet outside of door.
Folks that enjoy the outdoors, need to look at your early retirement period as a great opportunity to see American north west. The alternative is to spend your hundred grand on a bay boat
