Just an update, we went to Gueydan and put out a spread of about 500 decoys. Hunted the evening and morning, but the geese just would not commit to the spread. We literally had zero geese fly within shooting range. Talk about disappointing. Geese were definitely flying Sunday morning, but they were on a mission to land three fields over from us.

Same exact story here. Hit a wall at 60 yards. The specs on the other hand.... hovering over the ground. Saw a ton of geese though and we’re still holding them so should be a good second split as always.

I've done a couple of out of state hunts in Missouri after the season. It's really hit or miss depending on where you hunt and the weather. Some fields shoot 50-100+ and some don't shoot anything. Guided is the way to go because as mentioned its a shite load of work, setup and plain luck

White spreads definitely separate the men from the boys. A few years ago we set one out during regular season (ducks were slim and no e calls legal) in south arkansas and killed 90 the first day including full speck limits. Next set a few days later the geese moved from the scouted area the afternoon before and we killed one. Definitely will drive you crazy at times.

Yep, spot on. People always ask me who to go with for conservation order hunts thinking they'll melt their barrels..."no limit, man!! No plugs!!" All fun and games 'till you don't fire a shot and have to pick up all those damn decoys.

I tell them to save their money and go to MO or Arky for their best chance if they're just dying to try it.

It takes a special person to put out decoys for an hour, not shoot a shot then pick em up I love it and no one has complained too much yet

Rain kept me home this past weekend... Still another chance on the back end of the season.

I have heard this type of story literally hundreds of time. I experienced it probably 30+ times and was completely frustrated. One day, after a couple of beers, I decided to call the number on the package for the company who used to make those plastic rag decoys. I forget the name now, but it was out of Texas. The guy who answered the phone was real nice and told me he had heard it too many times himself. He then told me that he truly believed that the magic number for an effective snow spread is around 650-700. At the time, I had right around 500 rags plus a few shells. So, my friend and I went and bought 3 more rolls (of 100) and started tying. We got a group of 7 guys together for the next Saturday and we ended up with 92 snows and blues. We had about 6 or 7 more hunts like that for the season. Only once did we set out a snow spread and end up with less than 50 birds.

Texas Hunting Products. Old man died and they haven’t produced rags in like 4 or 5 years sadly
