I’m a novice at grilling so I’m looking for a decent smoker to plug in that is smarter than I am. I’m guessing electric with a remote of some kind. Set it and forget it

TIA

I used to have a Masterbilt electric smoker and loved it. It had a remote with a meat probe, that ended up being well worth the extra cost.

I have a pit barrel cooker. Pretty simple. Not a true "smoker" but it makes some good meat.

Green mountain pellet. Stay away from Traeger. It's shite.

Go to Jay's.

Otherwise get a Weber kettle and have fun learning to smoke meat.

Those auto pellet jobs are boring as frick.

That's what he's looking for. Not everyone wants an old school pit smoker that they have to mess with the fire wood constantly

Gotcha. Different strokes I guess.

For me that's half the fun. Doing that while drinking whiskey does not make for consistency for sure.

Get a decent smoker, an AMNPS maze pellet holder, and a good aftermarket dual probe thermometer. The only tending to (under 12 hours) is wrapping meat, unwrapping meat, flipping meat, or removing meat.

I have MES30, its bluetooth but I never use it. Im never changing temps. I have AMNPS and its set it and forget it for up to 12 hours loaded. For those that dont know its just a metal maze that allows pellets to burn like a fuse in snake pattern. Perfect amount of smoke and it just sits at the bottom of the smoker. The aftermarket thermo probes allow more accuracy and options.

Im finishing up a chicken on my grill right now. Brined 4 hours, smoked with apple in AMPNS for 2 hours to 150deg, now finishing to 165deg on grill. I tried a new seasoning my wife picked up, probably wont do that again as its charred. So no pics, its not my prettiest of birds Ive made

ETA: AMNPS goes 12 hours not 6

I also use MB electric smoker with meat probe and bluetooth...I like the bluetooth to monitor the internal temps of the meat on an app for my phone

Don't know what I am doing wrong with my amaznps but it alwaysdies out...

I bought a cold smoker that attaches to where you are supposed to put in your chips through the side that is good for up to 10 hours of smoke.

Mine is pretty fool proof, load it, pack it a little, set it in preheated smoker, and light with propane torch. I keep the torch on it till it burns an inch or more. I turn off torch and let burn 30 seconds longer with flame before blowing out and closing door. This always works for me. I also make sure nothing will drip or fall onto it, ive had drippings put mine out.

Alot of smoker options out there. Stick, Charcoal, Pellet, Electric, Propane, etc...

Amazingribs.com has good reviews for all things bbq.

A good cold drink of choice always helps the pit master and should be enjoyed no matter what kind of pit.

Anyone have any experience with the Pit Boss smokers? They look very similar to a Traeger but less expensive.

Not enough air. Pull the chip tray out 1/2 way.

Bradley makes a good electronic smoker, uses the wood disks. Theyre proud of them though, look for an open box special on Amazon. I have a wood/charcoal pit, a gas fired rig, and the Bradley. Use the Bradley all the time bc it's so easy. They also have a cold smoke function for fish and cheeses if you want to play around with that.

First off ask your self Honestly do I really want to get into this as a once a month hobby can I wee me doing this for a couple years? How committed an I and what can I afford to spend based on my need. Ya can cobble something together for free or invest thousands which can or are willing to do. Just getting into it start cheap and simple to make sure ya like it. There will be a learning period all the advice in the world will not change this. If ya a fat cat with money to burn go big and if ya find its not for you it will make a fine gift for someone in da family
