i just rolled down my rear window (auto windows) and when trying to go back up, it sounded perhaps like it came off the tracks?

but, now it kind sounds like the motor isn't running any more either. So i'm not sure which one is the problem

the window moves freely by hand and will come about 2 inches from the top before it stops. feels like something is blocking it from going all the way up.

my question - if it were the motor, would i be able to push it up freely?

Take off the panel and make sure all of the nuts that hold the regulator on are tight. You should be able to see if one of the cables is fricked up too

If the motor isn't working, go get a new motor and regulator at Napa. They're like $100. It takes like 30 minutes to swap out

Had this happen in my silverado a few years ago, the motor broke and would not push window back up, was able to pull window up and held it up with tape. Bought a replacement motor and track online for around $30 and fixed it myself.

You can find videos for all of that on youtube as well.

It's a very common thing on them. I've done three of my windows, and one twice

would the up/down mechanism be the scissor style?

I just assumed if it was actually still bolted to the motor, it wouldn't just slide completely freely.

this particular window probably hasn't been rolled down in several years, which is probably the problem.

It's pretty easy. The only thing to be careful of is all of the clips and hidden fasteners (hex head screws)

I had to replace the window assembly on my '02 2500 hd last summer. Don't overthink it, the whole assembly gets replaced, and it is not that expensive (or hard) at all. Check out Rock Auto. I think the same thing happened to me, cable broke.
