Anyone on here used the silencerco trust to purchase a suppressor?

I have. No issues at all.
I have a suppressor and an SBR on it.

Thanks, what is the process? I purchase from them, fill out with my info and then take to my lawyer?

Why not just get your lawyer to draw it up in the first place?

Pay for it online, give them the info for the trust, wait about 5 minutes for them to email it to you. At this point I was done. Went to the gun shop and bought the suppressor.

I'm in TN and here it doesn't have to be filed with the county. Not sure about the process there.

I would spend the money on a good lawyer to do it.

I have tried, I live in hale co. Alabama and have been unable to find a local lawyer who is familiar with the process. I am sure there is one in the Tuscaloosa area but again have not been able to find. I have a local lawyer friend that is asking around for me. Thought the silencerco trust may be my next step.

Ask your friend if a trust needs to be filed in AL. If not there is no reason to involve one.

Pardon my ignorance, but is this the same as getting the tax stamp?

No. You get a trust and can file a tax stamp through the trust to buy the NFA item. Google NFA trust vs. NFA single ownership or NFA CLEO. It will give you all the info you will need.

So the trust doesn't take long, but the stamp takes months right?

Yessir. Trust takes a couple of hours. That is like a legal entity. You can add your kids on to it and such. With normal NFA ownership (CLEO and fingerprinting) you can be the only one in possession of the item unless you are present (your friend cannot have your NFA item, he can only use it in your presence). With a trust, you can add people on the trust who can posses it. You have to be 18 or older to possess the item, 21 to purchase. You also choose who will receive the items when you pass away. Trust is a no-brainer. You just have to file a form 4 (if you buy a factory item) or a form 1 (if you manufacture an NFA item). You get approval and your tax stamp. This is the thing that costs $200 each time.

what about building an SBR. Same process? And what kind of engraving do you have to do?

I looked and looked and couldn't find anyone local to do quality engraving.

Ended up loading up 2 receivers for myself and 2 of my brothers and driving to Lake Conroe and have this guy do it.

LINK /

He was super easy to work with and did top notch work. One was an Ak receiver. If you do an AK, make sure you hit the cold blue with oil as soon as you get home.

You can mail them to him if you like. Get lower engraved before you submit Form 1. That way if it's lost, you aren't out much.

You can also create an LLC to take ownership of NFA items.

2 ways to go about it:
1. Individual
2. Entity (i.e. Trust or LLC)
