don't do that. 2022 wasn't a particularly good pistol.

Thanks for the input there. I see a sig and hammer and decocker and immediately think "I need this."

You could get an H&K VP70:

Just kidding, don't get a VP70 .

This thread has reignited my jonesing for a USP Compact in 9mm.

Can’t ever go wrong with a P226 though. Very accurate and reliable

For your first pistol, buy something you like to shoot. Feel is an individual thing. My brother has a VP9 and it’s a phenomenal pistol. I have a Walther PPQ and I love it. Also have a Hellcat, and it might be my favorite gun. Still want a VP9 though, but next will be something full size.

USP Compact

The HK trigger parts you can buy for those are unreal. Full match trigger kits. The sound of that break is German nirvana.

The P2000 vid I linked is as close as I could get mine. Nickel bits, hammer and trigger springs, reduced reset lever, tapped trigger…

I’m looking for something that will be easy to maintain, supply with accessories, buy ammo for, etc. it’s a starter gun, but I also want to make sure I don’t get a POS just because it’s my first one.

Buy a Gen 5 Glock 19 and go from there.

Glocks are phenomenal first guns.

That said, my vp9 is my favorite pistol I own.

SigSauer vs H&K

For me it's H&K VP9 SK. With the adjustable side panels and back strap I was WAY more accurate right out of the box.

Well everyone, I went in today and shot everything mentioned and then some and came home with an Sig Sauer M17. I loved the P226 but couldn’t justify spending an extra $350 on a first pistol because the body is machined aluminum. Anyway, hope I didn’t screw up.

That’s a solid first purchase. Enjoy!
I don’t know that you can really screw it up. I look at it as different tools for different jobs.
