I took my Browning Maxus (black synthetic) out of the closet and the duratouch stock is sticky like tape. I called Browning and they told me they will replace it for free, but I would need to send in the gun and they have an 8 month backlog! Their recommendation was to put gun tape on it, which is ridiculous for a gun they charge $1300 for. I’m not willing to send it in, but would pay locally to get it refinished if it’s not too expensive. Any recommendations on where to get this done? I may be interested in getting the whole gun refinished (ceracote), but I at least want to get the stocks fixed.

I have a friend that had the same issue with his duratouch stock. He was able to get them the send him new furniture and he changed it out himself

Several chat room discussions about it online. Get the right tech on the phone at browning and they will send you the furniture to replace yourself is the general outcome.

For some reason they would not send me the replacements. I asked them to ship to me and I could ship back the old one, but the rep said that’s not how they were handling it.

The receiver and barrel are in good shape, I just figured while I was at it, might get it all redone. The Cerakote is secondary, getting the stock not sticky is definitely primary. I thought about possibly spraying it with some clear coat, but I figured that might just crack off.

I guess I can call every day until I get someone who will ship it to me. I also don't want to have to do this every 5 years. If I can just have it stripped and refinished, might solve the issue for longer.

I'd HIGHLY suggest staying away from Baker's. Right now theres a big post on NADHA on facebook of folks that hes constantly lied to about when their gun would be done. Some as long as 2 months after he quoted they'd be finished. Also he royally screwed up a friend of mine's rifle and had to re-do it 2 times. Finally my buddy just took the gun back and said he'd take it somewhere else. For $40-50 more you can get it done right at WWGuns, inc there in Morgan County and it will be done right and on time the first time.

8 months backlog? That's a bunch of bullshite right there.

I'd call and ask for this guy. Explain that this is hunting season and that you saved for a year to buy what you thought was the best on market only to get screwed. And now you may not even be able to use the danged gun.

Same thing happened to my Browning BPS. I read on one of the forums to try and spray the stock and forearm with clear, satin enamel. I thought, well, it is worth a try because the SOB was useless as it was. I taped up the barrel, receiver and trigger guard and went at it. It seems to have worked pretty well.
