How much do they usually go for a piece? and how soon after you put them out should you go back with your dog?
I’ve heard only a few hours as predators find them fairly quickly.

They usually put out night boxes and most of the ones that don’t get shot go into the boxes

Depends on the place you are hunting. Low-end places are around $150 for 10 birds with a couple of hour hunt. Nicer places, with larger fields, cost more. Guided is more expensive than self-guided. Lots of options out there, more so outside of Louisiana...

Do they clip their wings to prevent them from flying away?

i was going to buy some and put them out myself for my dog. i heard you twirl them around by their legs to make them dazed then shove them in some brush, come back a few hours later. Is this accurate?

Lol. Did they walk them out on a leash for you?

Make sure you are in a good sized field and open the container and let them out one or two at a time. Let them walk away. No need to wait for hours, and no need to dizzy them.

Even flight conditioned birds don't fly that far, no need to clip wings.

I have seen missed birds lift up and fly out of sight high
Don’t shoot them too quick on the rise if you are shooting a double gun. Give them time to level out and fly some

Wayne Thornhill in Jayess Ms (just north of Tylertown) puts on as good or better shoot than anybody, not the fancy lodge experience, but always has great birds, he uses Georgia Giants which are about twice the size of the typical northerners , great dogs, brushed up and lightly wooded fields that offer great shooting situations and he has your birds cleaned for you all included in the price of $10/ bird

Shooting pen raised quail is more of a hunt than shooting high fence deer.
I wouldn't pay for either but if I had a free trip I'd kill the shite out of quail or high fence deer and enjoy the hell out of eating them lol

Put them in pillowcase and spin. Put birds on the ground and cover with brush or hay, and they’ll be there when you come back. Won’t wander off

No pillow case not by the legs
Hold by body upside down and swirl around a few times - is all the dizzying you need - if any

Wayne Thornhill in Jayess Ms.
Been to great ones but his experience with the kids is the BEST.

I buy pen raised birds for my dog, I get them in AL for $4 a piece, around here they are $8. I don't twirl them around by their legs, quail are some fragile mofos. I do, hold them in my hand and spin my arm around to dizzy them up sometimes. Once I place them on the ground, I cover them up with brush or lay over some tall grass so they feel hidden. If you wait a few hours, you won't have my quail left.
They put off enough scent for a dog to find them right away. shame there are not many wild birds around anymore.
