Has anyone ever tried live shiners in saltwater? I would imagine they would live long enough to fish live in saltwater. my experience is that finger mullets usually catch larger and les trash fish than live shrimp.
also I have thrown a cast net in back yard and caught 1 1/2" shad, put them in Ziploc and let my son use them with great results with trout

pogies/menhaden/shad all the same thing. most call saltwater pogies and freshwater shad.

the question was asked because I can catch all the shiners and shad/pogies in the lake behind my house that for free.

keeping pogies/shad alive is a bitch. so I don't even bother.

In his defense, I've never, ever heard someone say that "cocahoes suck at catching trout."

Ever.

Any tank that is circular works to keep them alive a while. They swim in circles. If it’s square they bang heads and die quickly. Also don’t put a lot in a tank become they shed scales and the scales get stuck in their gills killing them.

whats the difference?

my buddy used to have a 40 gallon round live well that filled with water would sink most boats. and it was still hard to get them sucked to stay alive.

they are the dumbest fish on earth

don't get me wrong. cocahoes for redfish are great. I caught my quickest limit of redfish in leeville 3 weeks ago on 4 dead cocahoes and a croaker. 23 minutes.

In my experience, cocahoe minnows are the best overall live bait. They are almost impossible to kill and can be used to catch more than one fish on most occasions.

When you are catching like we did Fri eveything from trout to undersize trout, white trout, channel mullet, bluefish, hardheads, gafftops, spanish mackerel, and 3 species of sharks, you don't want a fragile bait.

Croakers, pogie, and shrimp don't last long enough to fish both tides, and shrimp are good for one bite only.
