Went crawfishing in the public crawfish ponds in Sherburne last week. We went on Wednesday, and it was a bit colder than we would have liked. Were out there a few hours and caught ~35 lbs or so. Not great, but we had fun and enough crawfish for the four of us.

Didn't get as many pics as I would have liked. Here is one about halfway through.

We were the absolute only people there. Wildlife and Fisheries came and checked our licenses and everything. Got drunk as frick. Fun day

I remember crawfishing in Ramah the year after Andrew. We would spend less than 2 hours out there and come home with at least 100#.

A couple guys pulled up to us in the parking lot after we finished and were about to leave. Asked us how we did and said they limited out on 100 lbs about 3 days earlier. Just too cold the day we went.

What licenses are required to crawfish? Basic?

Good catch too.

Either a hunting or fishing. Both work. Make sure to fill out the form at the gate before fishing too.

Nope. Like I said, we drank a couple cases and got dirty. Had a nice boil a few hours later. Good day.

That's kinda what I was thinking too. Just a fishing license?

Those ponds run like a mother fricka. Over and over and over again.

Caveat: The aforementioned is based solely on water temp.

Place is huge.

In only three seasons, my friends an I have legally harvested nearly 500#

12 nets/traps per person, basic freshwater license per person and traps may not be left overnight.

Complete entry permit at entrance shack and make sure to complete and drop off permit on your way out.

Very cool place, IMO

Yeah, we used to fish it regularly when I was in college between 2000 and 2004.

You know it's good when you see them scatter as you walk through the field checking your traps.

We drew an opening day lotto hunt out there and killed 2 mallards, about 5 or 6 teal, and 3 snows one year too.

Nah. You can walk in or take a regular sized 4 wheeler.

I've even seen people drive lawn mowers, because it's about a 1 mile walk from the gate if you have no atv.

Exactamundo.

A few times I walked through the ponds barefooted, running traps.

When they scattered, one or two would always hit my leg then pinch down.

It doesn't really hurt during that millisecond pinch but it does startle me every single time.

And you'll barely be at the first set
of ponds.

That place is miles wide and long.

I hike in and pull a cart. Takes about 40 min to make it to the center of the pond territory.

Yeah, that's true. We usually went to the dead end, made that left and started fishing those ponds where it turns back right down the middle.

We pulled a wheeled ice chest with another cooler bungee corded to the top. When I say we, I mean a pledge usually...

Google Sherburne WMA.

The place begins at the 'South Farm' entrance.

I've fished two days in a row in the exact same spot. I limited out both days.

South Farm is the goodness.
