Most of you guys are closer to the ocean. Is this even possible or did someone drop it there as a joke?

Had to be put there. Way too far from the coast and no waterways (that I can see) that connect them.

Tennessee River runs through Guntersville Lake but it looks to clean to have floated dead up there.

if they can make it to the great lakes they can make it there.... maybe even reproduce, the juveniles usually stay in a tight range of salinity but the adults can do some pretty amazing/crazy stuff, so maybe he was born there and did not have enough salinity in the water to flourish.... maybe

It's really not all that far up the Tombigbee/Tenn-Tom/Tennessee river.
I really don't think it's likely however unless that shark was born up there (Do bull sharks lay eggs in freshwater?) It looks pretty small.

i know bull sharks retain salt in their swim bladder which allows them to travel into freshwater but that's just a little too far north to be believable to me

Did you know? Bull sharks have been found thousands of miles up the Amazon River, and in Nicaragua have been seen leaping up river rapids, salmon-like, to reach inland Lake Nicaragua.
thousands of miles up a freshwater system....

Live young, Wade had a whole show about 14ft bullsharks swimming inland to give birth, then learning that they could steal fish off lines in the lakes, and staying. The babies hang out in the river until they're three or four feet long, then head to the ocean. It's unlikely, but possible this was a juvenile that took a wrong turn looking for bluewater.

Several dams would be in the way. What are the chances of a shark sticking around to lock up and get up river? Not very good IMO.

According to Guntersville Police Chief Jim Peterson, a shark found on the banks of Lake Guntersville was a hoax. He says a fisherman found the shark Wednesday morning at a boat ramp near the Outlaw Steak House. Peterson says the naturalist from the Lake Guntersville State Park came and examined the shark. She says the fish had clearly been dead for days and was in an advance state of decomposition.
That settles that... ha.

The TN river has gators...but not sharks.

I did not realize there were gators up in North Alabama until about a month ago when a buddy took a pic of one while he was fishing. It was in Cotaco creek right off the river near Huntsville.
