Offshore, so what's your totals since you started this thing? You've been putting a pretty good dent in the predator's I would think

1 3/4 trap or bigger. Coyotes can shite wreck a trap so it has to be a good quality or modified trap.

Snare cable? Coyotes can chew through 1/8 or smaller but they can be shy of the bigger cable. You either have to check your snare ealry or drive in a kill pole so they wrap up and die. I hope that's what you were wanting to know.

thanks. what is the square piece of steel for in the setup pictures?

That big pussy is looking at you like, "it's about time you get here and take this damn contraption off my leg so I can get back to stalking my prey"

Tat Square piece of steel is for sifting dirt over the trap once you have it bedded.

Nothing today it seems like it's all or nothing. with the weather warming up like it is I may start pulling some. Also I found where my coyotes are going someone killed a hog and dumped the scraps out a mile or so from where I trap. It would be good but I can't trap there. I guess I will wait on them to make the round back through and maybe catch a few then.

I've only caught what I have put pictures on here of 4 coyotes, 1 cat, 2 coons and 1 possum.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you do with the animals once you come up on them? Do you kill them all or release some or what? Being new to all of this I'm just trying to learn, but I've seen people saying you are catching the coyotes to pen, which I assume means you somehow keep them alive and get them in some form of pen. But then I've also read where you say you choke them. What did you do with the big bobcat? Again I've seen where you say you choke them, but then someone made the comment(more than liekly jokingly) that the cat was thinking "glad you're here, now take this thing off so I can continue stalking my prey". Again I only ask again out of my shear ignorance with all of this lol. Awesome pics btw.

The main reason I am trapping is to clear off some of the predators off our hunting club. The coyotes that have good feet and no mange I sale alive to running pens everything else is killed for the fur or to just get rid of them.

The bobcats are worth more to me than anything I catch. They are turkey killing machines and I can use more of the cat. I keep the fur, glands and skull I could sale the meat but it's more trouble than it's worth. I wish I could catch more of them!

Offshoretrash, I have some dig ins under a fence I have from coyotes. I currently use snares and catch a few hear and there but alot of times the snares are knocked over when I get back. I've been thinking of buying some foot traps. Where would you put the traps? In the hole they use to come through or on either side of the fence? Thanks.R.Head

I would make sets on either side on the fence to catch them. Can you set the snares in the trail before the dig ins? It should be easy to snare them going under a fence though. The guys that snare out west look for this set up.

sounds effective but not very discerning-- catch a dog too. this would work though in a remote area like the spillway after dog hunting season.
There were no dogs near my house but if there are dogs around then anyone would have a chance at catching them.

I caught one a few years ago that weighed 32 lbs and was very spotted. I sold him for a $100 but I wish I had him mounted. The one I caught 2 days ago was pushing 30 he was fat. I picked up one on the road a few years ago that was 26 lbs he was built like a bulldog.

I had hooked up with a trapper this past weekend. Unreal on the prices they are paying for what trouble one has to go thru trapping. Dam shame I say. Hell, this guy was my age and we were talking about the prices back in the 1980's and what happen to them. Just unreal is all I can say. He was telling me that they are trying to bring in young people into the trade. There is a trapper union that will take on young people and also show them the do's and don'ts along with places to trap for free. A lot of farmmers need this service with some willing to pay too! Google Louisiana trapper arse. That might lead you if you're intersted into getting into this trade.

Where is that? I'm planning a trip this w/e to Eunice to watch a couple games. Might check it out, if they got some good groceries.
