Me thinks you’ve never actually fished Cobia along the beaches of Destin

Well I have and you can troll the beach and very occasionally troll up a cobe but the way you fish for them is sight fishing in the spring, water temp 68 and coming up, east or southeast wind is better, see them in the back of a wave.

Trolling the beach on the panhandle will get you some kings, bones, spanish, etc. Occasionally, blackfin will get on the beach in the winter.

When I said troll I didn’t mean in the sense of dragging lines.

Troll like idle up and down the beach sight casting.

JFC you people are insufferable

Dude, saying Destin isn’t known for deep sea fishing is like saying Hooters isn’t known for tits and wings

My point was and is, if I’m going “deep sea” fishing I’d rather leave out of Venice, Fourchon, Grand Isle on a 6 hour trip vs a 12-24 hour trip out of Destin.

Especially with kids like the OP mentioned.

He’s going to be in Destin and wants to go fishing. Hope that helps.

I did a trip with my parents and 9yo a few years ago out of harbor Walk. I think it was captain Bill and he had a big yellow boat. It was slow AF but we hit some man made reefs and hauled in some snapper. I dd get a huge grouper but it was out of season so had to toss it back.

Yep, I met Jason when he was still on the Backlash. I guess he has been on this new boat, damn, maybe 10 or so years. I think he is probably one of the best Capt’s in the Destin harbor imo. He absolutely crushes the AJ’s.

I've fished on Good Times, Silver Linings, Blue Runner II, and Fish-N-Fool out of Destin. All of these were 4 hour charters because we were in town for conferences.

Of these, I liked Silver Linings and Blue Runner II the best.

Well since the OP asked to
quote:

Bottom fish
and would like a
quote:

meat haul
, I don’t think the regional Florida limit of 1 redfish per person and 3 speckled trout per person would suffice.

Hope that helps.

That’s why I suggested an over nigh trip West into La waters. That’s what what most people do that fish out of Florida and Orange beach.

I hope that helps

I mean if he wants to to a 12-24 hour trip
Outta Destin to catch a few snapper and grouper, more power to him

Wish him luck, tight lines
