Sorry for the FB linnk, but this is pretty funny. Every launch should have a live stream to see the crazy shite that goes down.

WTH?! How did that even happen?
And did you see the guy down at the ramp that ran over to try and stop it? How did it head down the ramp tongue first? Did somebody unhook from the trailer, headed down that steep arse hill?

True Story. As a teen, I almost backed my dad's new truck in the Tensas river. He had a 1978 Ford Truck with the shift on the steering column. I backed the trailer down the ramp and into the water for my dad. He motored the boat onto the trailer, and yelled at me to head up the ramp.

I shifted that collar inward and down into 1st gear. Popped the clutch and it went backwards about 8 feet in the water. My dad started screaming pull up pull up. I said I cant it's stuck in reverse. The shifter on the collar had broken. While I had my foot on the brake, Dad waded ashore, popped the hood, and manually shifted it into low gear. I then revved the engine, popped the clutch and drove like a bat outta hell up that ramp. I was never so glad to see the top of that river hill.

Another time I forgot to put the plug in the boat. Caught that error in time while boat was still on the trailer Thank God.

I kinda have OCD now as an adult when launching my boat. I check EVERYTHING TWICE. LOL

Self launching boat I thought you were going to show this

Ima get me an ulterra for my duck boat....I hate like going to a nut thumping trying to pull a trolling motor back in the boat....plus I like it being able to deploy with the boat blind in place.....

I saw a dude put a brand new ranger into the bed of his truck on Yellow Jacket Creek at West Point Lake in the late 70's. The boat didn't even have registration on it...it was BRAND new!

He was trying to teach his wife how to back the trailer down the ramp and doing it in normal redneck fashion by sitting in the boat screaming at the top of his lungs at her. Of course she got frustrated and parked the truck and started walking somewhere....home I guess. Old boy tied the boat up and started after her....the inevitable ensued and, despite their distance the noise could still be heard of the two of them having a marital discussion at high volume....and he comes storming back, jumps in the truck....burns rubber DOWN the ramp...pretty damned impressive that.....slams the truck in park while it is still traveling about 20 MPH down the ramp, hops out and jumps in the boat, heads away from the dock WOT, goes about 1000 yards out on the lake and swings 'er around, still on a plane....and never lets up until the damned bow light is about 18 inches inside the sliding back glass! Needless to say his mood did not improve at all....I think he misunderstood the concept of a drive on trailer....they probably should call them "idle at best on trailers" cause that old bot certainly proved to me they ain't meant to be driven on....

It amazes me how many people can’t properly launch a boat.

I bet there are more divorces caused by men teaching their wives to back a trailer down a boat ramp than any other reason, adjusted for the population of folks who have done it. I taught my wife by shutting the frick up in the middle of winter when no one else was around at a ramp that was 5 lanes wide without curbs. Not a peep out of me for advice unless she asked.....took about an hour but she has been able to do it as good as anyone for the better part of 30 years now. I did the same thing with my son....when he was 9. He had never driven a vehicle at all at the time and damn near put us in the drink but he can go get the truck now and all I gotta do is let him out and wait for the truck...its GREAT! Im going to teach my daughter this winter.

If you do not own a boat and would like to be invited to fish on other people's boats learn how to back the thing down a ramp. Most people will be loathe to let you the first time because they don't want their truck sunk...but it will almost guarantee you another invitation to fish off their boat again, if you ain't a dick in general. I learned this when I was a kid and would fish the rip rap at boat ramps on Lake Alatoona in Georgia....I got the nerve to ask a guy by himself one day if he'd like me to back the boat in the water for him so he could drive it off the trailer. He was dubious but for some reason allowed it....and of course he asked if I'd like to fish with him that day and many days after! I offer to do it with guides also...most won't do it the first day but after a day of fishing they almost always allow it when returning to the hill....and the relationship is FAR better than simple guide and sport because they really appreciate the simple step and it speaks to your level of experience....try it, I promise it works.....unless of course you get the trailer high centered on the rip rap or get his truck wet to the front bumper, then you're fricked....

DON'T TOSS THE OWNERS KEYS TO HIM....hand them to him CAREFULLY. Nothing will sour a budding fishing relationship like your tossing dude's keys in the drink!

If you ain't done this you ain't owned a boat long!

Whats really fun is when you've done it and you are alone and let the boat slide off the trailer like normal, tie it up at the dock instead of on the bank, park the truck and come back to a boat full of water and getting fuller by the second!

Just keep them. You're going to have to back the truck down anyway.
