Securing gun safe without bolting down

My safe is on carpet and enclosed on three sides with walls. I am not interested in bolting it to the ground through the carpet and it does not have holes in the back to secure it to wall studs.
My thoughts were possibly rigging a strap or cable that runs across the top of the safe and is affixed to the walls on the side somehow. I had it shimmed in the front providing a slight rearward tilt but I read this could cause issues to the mechanisms over time.
I’m not worried about maximizing security from thieves, but only minimizing my risk my child somehow accidentally pulling and tipping it.

Get a piece of 3/4" plywood that's 6 inches to a foot longer than the safe. Bolt the safe to that piece of plywood.

I drilled holes in mine, then ran 2" screws into the 2x4 studs.

Buy 2-3K rounds of ammo to put in the bottom. Win-Win.

I’d bolt it down. Unless you’re in a rent house I don’t see the downside of it. It makes it safer and also makes it more secure. A strap or cable like you mentioned will likely work for what you want but it’s going to look janky.
FWIW I don’t think I could tip any of my safes over if I tried.

Get on marketplace and buy 200lb of the cheapest weights someone is selling. Put them in the bottom.

With many of them, withthe door halfway open it can be done easily. By far the most weight is in the door of most safes. Most of them are sheet metal boxes with heavy doors. I about killed myself with my safe trying to scoot it around with the door cocked open.

Brace the top lip with each wall so the door can still open. Piece of wood, metal or a strap.

Well yea, but that isn’t a concern for toddler safety.

I ran into the same issue, though in a less tight space. My solution was to anchor one 2x4 into the studs behind the safe even with the height of the safe. Anchor another 2x4 toward the bottom of the back wall (so the safe sits evenly against the wall at the top and bottom). Use a ratchet strap to connect to the top 2x4 on either side of the safe and tighten. The strap will run along the top part of the safe (where your Gadsden flag sticker is).
Not the prettiest solution, but it won't tip.

Putting a hole into your carpet is a neglible expense here. Honestly a couple of 3/8 inch holes would probably barely even be seen if you ever remove it and if that carpet is reusable. The weight of the safe likely damn near ruins the carpet anyway.
But yes you could easily run a 2x4 across the top of your safe above the door and secure that to the walls. Or a strap across the top.
