Waste of money. Shoot iron sight.

Nah. Good optics are universally better than iron sights. Irons can be serviceable but that's all they are. I took the scope off of mine for a year and put a peep sight on it and I had a scope back on it the next season. The very slightly better carrying is not worth the loss of functionality.

Yup. I put a skinner peep on mine when I first got it. I was able to shoot around 2" groups at 50 yards on targets. Took it hunting and shot a doe at 30 yards. In the woods I struggled finding what I wanted to shoot in the peep. Put a scope on it the next day and can hit 1.5" groups at 100 yards.

I have this on my Henry 30-30. I love it. I have a skinner on my Ruger Marlin 44mag. I love it too, but it does force you to wait about 15 minutes later for a shot vs a scope in the morning, and it cuts your evening hunts short due to visibility.

My main problems with irons are low light performance and long range performance. Both are always going to be better with a scope. Now that we have excellent LPVO's available, irons are really only useful as a backup option on an expedition trip.

If you have good optics properly mounted, you'll never need a backup. I wish all my rifles had irons on them just in case, but the only situation I can think of where i prefer irons is driving rain, where scopes are just really difficult to keep clear.

“I just have iron sights on all of them”.

How old are you? Once a person hits early to mid 40’s iron sights don’t work well.Eyes lose the ability to focus on 3 things-rear sight, front sight and target.Peep sights work better as only have to focus on front sight and target. If one is nearsighted they don’t work well.

My wife shoots a Marlin .30-30,I put a Leupold VX3,2 1/2x8 power scope on it.
She’s made a good many 1 shot kills,furtherest 165 yds.
Best deer mounted on our wall she killed,11 pt.-1 shot, dropped him in his tracks at 100 yds.

I’m 44, luckily I don’t have an eyesight problem presently. I have plenty of other rifles if I need them. The distance issue only presents a problem in certain stand on our club, if I’m sitting in a stand over a couple acre green field the I grab the 30-30 or 44. If I’m hunting in cutover then I grab something with a scope on it.

Hopefully I have a few more years before the bad eyesight hits me. When the time comes I guess my sons will get a few lever guns.

My 30-30 has a scope, but not for distance shooting. Open sights work much better in an open space than in thick woods. A scope helps you make a quick identification of whether the deer is something you want to shoot or pass. It also helps you pick out better shots in thick woods.

Yeah I know, binoculars. I’d rather not be switching between binoculars and the rifle if I know it’s a deer. That’s too time consuming and clumsy.

Ahhhhhh man now youre treading on sacrilege.

Scopes are great on rifles meant to have scopes. Faboogering up a 94 IS NOT great!!!! Use that thing the way pawpaw did.

A scope ruins the appearance of a lever gun IMHO. And, the elk horn sights are perfect for accuracy out to 150 yards

Yup. Popped this guy on my last day of hunting with my Henry .45-70. Just the buckhorn sights on it. (He was also the first buck I ever killed by calling him in with a can call). Have wanted to keep my lever gun as traditional as I can.
