Please elaborate, only because I watched multiple well known YouTubers test the cds system before I purchased it and there wasnt a single complaint of not tracking

The Mark 4 and 5s for sure. Possibly the vx6. Otherwise they can't be trusted.

As long as you set it and forget it on the other models you're good but if you're dialing up and down consistently for long range, the Mark models are the military grade. Those 2 can be trusted.

The CDS system has nothing to do with the internals. It's a printed cap.

If you want 100% consistency on dialing, Nightforce is the way to go.

There are plenty of scopes with trustworthy mOA\MIL adjustments under $2500. My Trijicon Credo is fantastic. I shoot steel out to 800 yards no problem.

I'm not saying you can't get a cheaper one that tracks, but if you were shooting long distance consistently, like wearing out barrels, you would want a scope you can trust. Just plinking every now and then probably won't matter as much.

I am well aware of that, just saying i watched several track using the fancy printed cap.

My recommendation was for a reasonable deer gun scope that has long range capabilities. I seriously doubt OP is going to pay for a nightforce to take 200yd shots

Leupold doesnt get much love from the long range hunters. They aren't as durable or reliable as other options.

I general, nightforce trijicon and swfa are what those guys. I gotta say, I completely agree with them. You don't know how nice it is to have a scope you can drop and not worry about it till you've had one.

For deer hunting in the southeast, a Leupold VX 5 will be fine.

I stress hunting.

If your are planning on shooting long distant competition or hunting out west you need something more robust and better powers.
I have a Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 on my comp rifle and a Vortex Razor on my other LD gun.

But, if you are hunting in the SE and probably hunting in a tree or box stand the Leupold VX is fine

Yep. Most of them work fine if you don't beat your stuff up and leupold does a good job of being light weight and having good glass. The prices have gone up across the whole product line more than other manufacturers, and I don't think the "made in usa" thing carries much weight when it's really assembled here from parts made in who knows where.

I don't hate leupold, I have quite a few of them, but in hindsight I have experienced some of the issues that other people point out. Mainly, it's basically SOP that if you drop your rifle or bump the scope, you need to check the zero. That has applied to every normal brand of scope (leupold, weaver, nikon, tasco, etc) for as long as I can remember. Everyone expects it to be off after getting dropped and it's a topic of conversation when someobody's zero isn't off after a good scope knock. Once you have a scope that can take a beating and still be dead on every single time, hunting gets more fun. It's nice to not have to stress out about babying your rifle for fear of losing zero. I can never go back - I wish all my scopes were trijicon or SWFA or nightforce (lol yea right).

There are a lot of very, very good scopes out there right now that unless you are doing competition, you may not know about:

Kahles, Zero Compromise, March, Tangent Theta, are some.

those are all bulletproof scopes along the lines of Nightforce.

And all are about $3000 lol
I paid $2800 for my Swarovski. I know some have tracking issues. Mine doesn't yet.

Are you talking about CDS scopes or scope with 'regular' turrets?

I'm talking about Leupold scopes that aren't Mark 4 and 5.

I own a Leupold vx5. It's on my kids 270 and it holds zero. That's all I expect from it. If I wanted them to shoot long range I'd have bought a different scope.
