Last Saturday I purchased a new S&W E Series 45ACP 1911. I went to field strip it today and the slide stop was jammed. The pin would not move. Anybody else have this happen?
Anyway I called Smith and they said send it back.
I have purchased five new S&W pistols and this is the second one I have to send back. Forty % return for repair on new firearms is not what I expected from them.
Rant over.

The key word there is 'new'. I don't own any S&W pistols but all my revolvers are prelocks. I haven't personally seen one, but a friend told me his nephew bought a new S&W revolver and some of the internals are plastic. I understand the QC on their handguns isn't as good as it once was. Kinda sad.

I have three S&W revolvers. A pre-lock stainless 686, 357mag. an old model 10, 38sp. and a pro-lock 38sp. 637 airweight.
Not a problem with any of them.
I also have a full size M&P 9, had a Compact 9...sold it. Not a problem with those.
My shield had to be sent back because of fail to feed problem that Smith knew about for several years. Now my 1911....

You try tapping it out with a brass punch? It's new and i'd expect it to be tight?

Well in this case it was me. The instructions were a little confusing on where to align the slide stop. Several people had the same problem I did ..looking at other forums. I've solved this problem.
That said the problem Smith had with the Shield was well known by them.
Anyway all is good.

I like S&W autos, well most of them. I don't think I would buy a non performance center 1911 from them though, and it would have to be scandium.

First thought I had when I read the post was user error on getting the stop out...

I bought 2 Thompson Center(owned by S&W) Venture rifles for my grandsons.Only had them a few days and I had to send them back for recall, problem with the safeties.Didn’t cost me anything, just the irritation of having to take them to Fed Ex place.
Very accurate rifles,though.

Yep that was it. It was amazing to see the number of forum topics having the same problem. Makes me feel a little better.

Amen to that. You have to really commit to racking that slide out of the box on the S&W E. Gets better after a few hundred rounds.

I have the same gun. How many rounds have you shot thru it?

My only other 1911 experience prior to this gun is a very old Colt army issue that had a lot of gunsmith work done to it.
