Saltgrass Lodge - Anyone been?
Wife and I are going first week of September for our anniversary. A night away from our kids and a day of inshore fishing. Looks really nice and very friendly on the phone, just wondering if anyone has been before and had any tips.

One of my best friends is the owner. They have a great set up. I don’t believe there is a nicer lodge in Venice. The look over the marsh and river on the upper back porch in the evening is spectacular. Food is great and fishing is great. You and your wife will love it! No financial interest by the way, just watched Raymond and his family build the place from a run down antebellum home that was hammered by Katrina.

I've been...no complaints. Was on a business retreat with 3 other guys. We had the whole place to ourselves. Not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much if there were other people there. It's just a single house. It's big, but still. Owner took us fishing...it was good. He worked hard in tough conditions to find a lot of action. Food was very good.

went twice with bigger group on bus. trip.

place is nice.

Food is "pretty good"... some of it wasn't quite my style.

i thought the organization of the trip was kind of poor with all of the different charter captains taking the individual groups out. A bit hectic... some captains didn't know their head from their ass. Some had live bait some didn't. the cleaning of the game was pretty poor and unorganized, they all acted like it was none of their responsibilities so to speak. Owner was a nice good guy by all fronts though.

Does the owner have his own boats for charter of does he contract it out?

The owner his two sons and his brother all use their own boats. They have two other boats that are owned by the lodge and run by captains. The other captains that work with them and use their own boats.
