A trick I learned. I run 3 sticks usually with 8’ amsteel daisy chains. I use the extra rope as an aider by letting it drop and placing a loop on the bottom step. Works really well.

looking at the Tethrd Saddles.

My standard recommendation is a Cruze xc if you want a single panel or a buzzard roost for a double panel.

I’ve been in the buzzard roost shop a few times, and it’s just local ladies and baws happily making saddles. I’m very happy to send money their way.

There are so many good made in the USA options even outside of those two recommendations, you could at least narrow it down that way if you care about that.

How are saddles for those with lower back pain?

What about leg fatigue?

My setup is

Saddle - Overwatch Transformer

Platform - Trophyline Mission (big), Treehopper Tree-suit (small but awesome, Out on a Limb Scout on a Shikar Mini

Sticks - 4 Beast sticks, older 3 step Muddy's, Out on a Limb Shikar mini with Harken cam cleat and 3/8 Full Bury amsteel

Accessories - 40ft Sterling C-IV, Madrock safeguard descender, webbing daisy chains for sticks (wont use anything else), Ultimaider 3 step aider, Ultimaider pack n play, Versaider CAYG aider, 3 step Hang Free aider with Tri-glides, Ohm Tether locker, KUIU 2300 Venture pack, Horn Hunter Main Beam pack.

I love a 3 step aider on your first stick. The top of your first stick will be 7-8 feet off the ground. When I'm using the 4 Beast sticks the Versaider is really cool. Gets extra space between sticks without finding your footing like a normal aider.

Even when using 4 sticks I still use my 40ft rope and rappel down. I can self rescue with 40ft of rope. If I only had a tether and linemans if something happened 15-20 feet up you are stuck.

If I were buying a minimalist saddle or a cheaper saddle I would get the Latitude Maverick. 4" webbing instead of the normal 2". Weighs nothing, no metal buckles.

I'm currently fighting the urge to call the guy and see if I could pick one up tomorrow. I work nearby and could swing over at lunch.

I want to look more into the one stick method and rapelling. This method seems to be the ultimate for mobile hunting. I do some presets now but its a PITA to haul climbing steps around and leave them on public land. If I could find the right combo I may be selling my JX3 and switching over.

One sticking is the way to go if you want to be really mobile and lightweight.

If you don't want to one stick, another lightweight method would be some mini sticks and a 3 step aider. Same principle, but you don't have to move the stick each time. Still rappel down.

Yea. Any recommendations on the lightweight sticks. I use some Ape Canyon aiders on my current sticks. (original XOP) that I'm not crazy about.

No kidding. I have an old Lone wolf Climber that just sits in the garage. Their stuff is well made. I do like the design of those.

I do rappel but I don’t really one stick unless I have to get really high, I usually carry two or three sticks with a movable three step aider. My top stick has a cam clear if I need to make a move to get up a little higher.

With the weight of sticks now, another pound or two for an extra stick or two is no big deal and I’m much faster and take bigger bites between steps vs one stick moves.

I’ve been messing with two tether climbing some, I need to refine it, but I may try that some this year if I can get more dialed.

I think the one of the only reasons I one stick is because I'm short. 4 sticks with one step aiders would get like 16 ft if I have cold weather gear on. I can take my time and get as high as I need to be in cover with a one stick.

Another is that it's fun rappelling.
