Not Mississippi but I spotted a buck chasing a doe beside my house. There was a doe bedded down in some brush and the buck was keeping all the other suitors at bay.

Thank you! Been hunting there 35 years…This has been the weirdest deer season I can remember…Our typical year seems delayed by 2-3 weeks this year at least. We typically have mature deer moving Christmas til 2nd week of January. Seeing young bucks chase, but not the older deer.

I’m in Smith county. Bucks are definitely moving at night. My best buck was on my north east portion of my property at 2:15 this morning and on my south west portion at 4:15 following a doe. That’s 1 mile in straight line distance in 2 hours. Throw in hills, all the thick crap, he is definitely searching. It looks like he may have found a hot doe also.

My wind is wrong, but I’m going in anyway. I’m going to wait until just after daylight and let my thermals change. Wind is blowing hard enough with a rise in my thermals that my scent should rise above the trail and drop down past it.

It’s thick in there and he could be gone by the time I get there. My only hope is that doe doesn’t go far. He will stay close to her. I’m going to try some aggressive grunts, snort wheezes, buck roar, etc. once I’m set and quiet. Maybe I can draw him out.

My family place is in Summerland, last weekend there were scrapes and rubs everywhere and I was seeing younger bucks cruising. I want to say they’ll be full on chasing this/next week but I have noticed a very watered down lingering rut that peaks about the third week of January. There are a ton of does in this general area.

I’m in the hills close enough to hear em shooting ducks at Rodney this morning. Been bad slow here. Worst the hunting has been in my 30 years hunting here.

For Lincoln Lawrence, county hunters. I think it kicked off today.

I haven’t had a buck on camera in the daylight in a month, and the ones at night a lot of times were feeding together. I have had five on camera so far this morning all walking, all alone.
