Anyone seeing much chasing? I saw some young bucks chasing young does a couple weeks ago it doesn’t seem to be in full rut mode yet. Historically the week between Xmas and New Years has been the primary rut time in the area I hunt in Tensas. I read that the rut could be later than normal this year but was curious what others were seeing.

Small bucks were moving good last week. I hunted late into the morning and got back early in the afternoon. The big baws ought to be gearing up quick.

Good activity in Madison Parish. Should only get better over the next 10 days.

Young ones were full go this past weekend. Watched a young buck chase then mount a doe Saturday morning but also had a nice 3.5 yr old 8pt show no interest in the same doe before the young buck came out

Watched the best buck I’ve seen on our property chase a doe out of the brush on 12/26...this was in East Carroll. Saw some young bucks following a few days before that.

They’re not in full rut in Tensas. Bucks are laying up, does in heat going to them. Bucks will be on the move hard within a week.

ETA: big bucks laying up, does searching them out. When that’s done, big bucks will be on the move.

As a resident, I’m fortunate enough to get to hunt just about every day in either Newellton or St joe/waterproof. I would have to agree that it is lagging. I have seen some sporadic chasing going on in the last week to ten days but I think the best is still to come

We had an odd early rut flair up in Madison Parish in early December. Multiple serious chases going on. Since then, it’s been more of a trickle.
Had a good chase on Monday morning. 8 pt chasing hard. Another 8 and a 9 pt about 20 minutes behind. All 2-3 year olds.
A bunch of bucks get killed between Christmas and New Years, due to people being off work. Probably better rut for us after the New Year. Old timers have told me they don’t get serious unitl the New Year.

I’m in Centerville Ms and haven’t seen anything besides does. I’m wondering if we missed the rut or if it’s late this year.

Disregard date and time. This was about a week ago. Looks like the middle of the day and in a big field.

In Liberty. Started seeing some scrapes. I have plenty of bucks on Camera but they aren’t chasing yet.

I’m on the stand now near Newellton. I don’t think we’re in rut yet. Looking back at the last three years, it seems the rut starts around Jan 12-15.
We’ve killed the vast majority of bucks the 2nd weekend in January.

I’ve been hunting for 2 days straight and I don’t see any sign that it has started.

Still not much movement in Tensas (Near Newellton). I’ve heard that the rut may have been in early December this year. A guy at camp where I hunt said he saw 2 bucks breeding does on Dec. 5/6. I believe La Sportsman actually had an article regarding 2020 Rut stating the rut may be early this year. Sounds like that may have been correct. Secondary rut should be heating up so maybe they will start chasing again soon.
