What do you guys recommend for surface rust removal from underneath a side-by-side. Trying to get my mule coated to prevent rust but need to remove the current rust that is on it.

Clean off flaky rust/lifting paint then prep and ospho. If not flaky, sand/wire brush the rust and then use one of the rust converting primers.

Believe it or not, you don't even need to remove the old rust.
I've used this product on many things around the house and the rust never returns.
Seriously, it works.
Also seriously, don't get it on your hands.

POR-15 is a high-performance, moisture-cured rust preventive coating designed to chemically bond to rusted or seasoned metal to stop rust permanently. It forms a hard, non-porous seal that prevents moisture and oxygen from reaching the metal. It is widely used in automotive, marine, and industrial restoration.

Another POR-15 vote. It’s good stuff.

I just finished painting a 25 year old boat trailer that was showing a ton of surface rust. I sanded everything and cleaned well wuth Acetone. I then applied a coat of Eastwood rust inhibitor, then a marine paint. Not sure how well it will hold up long-term.
