Resources on building a shop

I plan on building a 30x30 shop with Hardie plank exterior and shingled roof. I'm looking for any type of resources on how to do it exactly, whether it be a book or video. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Tia.

Wood framed? How tall are the walls? How steep is the roof?

Not too sure because I've just gotten experience by doing it. However, if you're mathematically retarded like Broke or just don't feel like crunching numbers blocklayer has some pretty cool calculators for just about anything.

April Wilkerson is building one.
She's pretty easy on the eyes too. You can get some basic knowledge to see if its something you can handle or not. I built my own shed pretty much by myself and it was pretty easy but I do have construction experience. Honestly if I was going 30'x30' I'd have someone black it in and shingle it.

There are many many shed plans available for cheap or even free online. Some of the paid ones even have a pick sheet for materials.

I have watch April's videos but I was looking for something for in depth. I've helped frame a few things and I grew up building deer stands and I'm now what I would consider an a aspiring "fine woodworker" but I don't have any experience planning something on this scale. I want ten foot walls but I haven't decided on a pitch yet.

I don't know where you at but you may need to get an engineers stamp for a 30' clear span.
ETA; I wouldn't go more than a 6on12.

I'm in Calcasieu parish, I was going to look into buying pre built trusses.

30' clear is asking for trouble without using engineered structural members. i would go 20 x 40 or so. in any event, the easiest design especially if you dont have a lot of help or access to equipment is pole barn
you will have a row of posts on your long sides (the eaves) and then a run of beams connecting the posts (again, at the eave). you can then get pre-engineered roof trusses (light, pre assembled, easy to erect) and lay those on top of the beams with H-clips. then nailers across the trusses and roof sheets on the nailers. at the walls, you can stud them and hardi them
all you need be concerned with in this design is that you are square and plumb

Yea I hadn't thought about that wide of a span. I'm in the very early planning stages. I just put an offer in on a house and unfortunately the neighborhood doesn't allow for metal buildings and my first priority after buying this house is building this shop to house all of my woodworking equipment.

30' wide span, prefab trusses will cost a shite load compared to 20' or even 24'. Then, at 30', I would have to use 2x6 studs.
what kind of floor plan you looking to do?

Just finishing up building a 30x44 shop. Only thing I haven’t done myself is build the trusses and install roof decking/shingles (pitch is 8/12).
The trusses are prefab, combination 2x4 and 2x6. The lumber company engineered them and delivered them to the house. We hired a heavy duty bucket truck and set them ourselves.
I think the 22 30’ span attic trusses were about $3,000.
If you’re looking for good videos on building this sort of thing, check out Larry Haun. It’s an older series but he takes you through a build right up to the electrical rough in.

Yea I think I'm going to go with 20x30 now. The floor plan will just be one big open shop. I make close in a, closet later to house my dust collection and compressor. I can use 2x4 studs with A shop that size with ten foot walls?
