I don't reload to save money so I guess I've been doing it wrong for about 30 years now.

Give it another five years and maybe you'll have it figured out.

shite I do, but it doesn't work. I end up buying new stuff every other month that offsets the savings. I just got a case feeder last month and have already cut my time to load 500rds. in half. Now I'm looking at a wet tumbler so there goes another $300.

You can definitely save money reloading though. I got my 9mm competition rounds down to .14c/rd. using range brass. So I'm saving around $90.00 per 1000 rounds.

Have a crossfire on my tikka 22-250. Not bad for a <200 chinese scope. Put a Diamondback on my 35 whelen bc it's made for magnum recoil (per the website). That tikka may get restocked and get a VX3 down the road. It wrecks coyotes with regular varmageddons... probly not gonna reload for it. BTW, midway has free shipping right now. Ordered some sierra blitzkings for the 243 today.

Ha! Thanks but I’ve gotten it figured out just fine. Some people who shoot pistol and rifle competitions reload to tune the round to their barrel. Working up loads for accuracy like that can be fun and rewarding. Sometimes it’s not all about the money.

I'm way (really way) in the hole right now.

this past year I bought a K&M arbor press, LE Wilson dies in 6.5cm, K&M neck turning tool, new primer seating tool, annealer, and an autotrickler V3.

It'll be a while before I dig out of that one...

Baw, you bought some of the best of the best, top of the line reloading supplies. They are precision made , benchrest quality supplies that will last a lifetime. I did the exact same thing in 1992 and purchased Wilson hand dies, Neil Jones powder measurer , Sinclair press, Hood press, Oehler 35P chronograph, Titanium neck sizing bushings, Redding and Wilson bushing dies, Lucas bore guides, Sinclair hand primer, Dewey cleaning rods, and tons of Sinclair stuff. Approximately 30 yrs later I still use the same items that produce tiny 1-hole groups. Buy once, cry once brother as you’re already ahead of the game.

I've prettymuch made up my mind this is where I'm going, seems like any bad reviews are from people expecting way too much for what they paid or putting it on airguns and knocking something loose.

This build is really just to get me a fresh barrel to reload with, if I enjoy putting it together I'll move on up from there.

Sounds like a plan.
FYI, Dvor is having some scope sales on Vortex right now.

Agree, but I guess I got lucky with every accurate load I've developed being cheaper than factory ammunition. I also cast my own for 45 acp and 38 special. I'm really not sure how it can cost more money to reload unless you're buying equipment that's overkill to crank out 20 hunting loads a year. You buy the equipment that fits the bill.

I'm trying to get everything set up and my S/Ds into the low single digits so I can start shooting in LR competition at my gun club.

I have thoroughly enjoyed tinkering with all the different aspects of reloading and trying to get that hole as small as possible.

My best so far is .314", 5 shot group at 100yds
that was pushing a 143gr bullet 2711 fps average with an S/D of 8.7 and ES of 27.

I would like to get that speed up a little and find a lower S/D.

I will say that the LabRadar is a wonderful tool.

Well I made a little progress on having reloading save me money, and this will be a little bit of a PSA. If your local academy sells reloading stuff, and most don’t, they are marking down all rcbs stuff go exclusive with Hornady. I just walked out with a rock chucker supreme for $60.

dang

Thanks for the heads up.

I have absolutely no need for that but for $60?

Yeah I couldn’t believe it either, I saw it on the shelf yesterday with no price on it, decided to come back and get it since academy is usually pretty close to amazon pricing. After I scanned it with the aisle scanner I ran to the counter. They had a ton of rcbs dies on clearance too, just none I had an eye for.

6.5 CM , 24” barrel , H4350 ?
You need to find the accuracy node which should be around 2715-2730 fps. I would use Lapua brass with the small primer pocket. Increased velocity does not equal improved accuracy. Barrel harmonics and accuracy seems best at low 2700 fps in the CM.

I always recommend Lapua, as well, when accuracy is important. OTOH, there may be some new players in the game. I check case neck concentricity of new brass. For hunting rounds, I cull any pieces that vary >0.003". For varmint hunting, I cull at 0.002". W/ Rem and Win, I usually cull 20-30/100 that are >0.003". Lapua culls usually runs < 5/100. Nosler and Hornady are in between. I've just started loading some new brass, Starline (260 Rem) and Peterson (6mm BR to be necked down to 22 BR). At 0.002" neck variance, I only culled 1/50 for Starline and 0/50 for Peterson. Most of the Peterson were <0.001" variance. Peterson also came in an MTM plastic case, had punched flash holes and the inside of the neck chamfered. I'm looking forward to seeing how accurate the new brass shoots.

6.5cm 26" barrel
I've used H4350
RL16
and have some of the new 6.5 staball

Aware that speed doesn't equal accuracy. Would like to be a little fast but haven't tested enough to settle on anything yet.

And I am using that exact brass.
However, I am using regular small rifle primers as I haven't found small rifle magnums locally.

I also have 300-400 rounds of starline brass with the small primer pockets.

Midsouth Sale

I have a full size FART and it does a great job. This is a good price on a small batch size. Midsouth is great to deal with.

1+. I've been buying stuff from them >35 years. OTOH, their shipping rates have gotten kinda expensive. I find myself waiting for free shipping Midway and ordering from them. BTW, Midway has free shipping now for orders >$49.

Another great PSA would be to let everyone know when one of these places has a haz-mat fee waiver special

I have this one and really like it a lot.

Does a really good job of getting brass extremely clean.
