I also legitimately don't remember the last time I caught a redfish between 18 and 27. Everything I catch is over or under the slot.

Bingo. They know from the data what you know anecdotally.

I think 16”-25” would have made a whole lot more sense. In that scenario, you likely have more fish escaping into the breeding class.

This is what SC has had in place for 15+ years and redfish are everywhere, it's an excellent fishery there. But you can only keep 2, not 4, and although they do have shrimp boats, it's nothing like the pogey boats y'all have to contend with.

For tournaments, you basically weigh your two fattest 23.99 inch fish.

Everything Pogie related will be blocked legislatively. Too much money hitting politician pockets within Louisiana. Change might occur when it becomes a more relevant gulf wide/nationwide conservation discussion. Those pogie boats absolutely kill Tarpon and Tarpon is the fish that will sway things outside of Louisiana. They are doing what they can with the avenue they can make change with. Unfortunately that means the recreational angler will have to reduce the amount of fish harvested. I for one am happy to do it. I agree with all the comments that it’s not enough until there is meaningful change in the Pogie fishing.

I hope a class action lawsuit by redfish guides is put against the department. This will put people out of business.

Nah, majority of customers don’t want to bring back more than a gallon if that, it will hurt the menu of the lodges though.
Guides will get creative with taking good pics of releases and pics of clickers showing how many were caught.

Everyone I know and talked to that target redfish more than 50% of the time they leave the dock wanted changes. I don’t hear of a lot of local guys wanting to go get 5 redfish a pop + a guide limit. I’d say most of the targeted reds are out of state people and one less red a person wouldn’t keep them from coming back. Most guide boats that leave the dock fishing reds as a priority are out of state guides, clients, etc….

The new slot is going to take a lot of pressure off of reds. It’s going to half typical catches per slot, higher % being the 16”-18” fish. With all of the fresh water in SW La we have hammered the pop for two solid months. They are getting harder to find and catch.

This.

I fish Big Lake a lot (obviously less than Kemo) but still a decent big and all this fresh water has those red fish stacked up

Follow the money. We can cite all the figures about how much more money recreational fishing means for the state, that will be ignored by lawmakers doing what’s best for THEM, not the state, and Omega and Daybrook are dumping money into the right pockets.

Louisiana, where everything is for sale for the right price.

I will, however, be happy not seeing wheelbarrows full of bull reds coming to the cleaning table, knowing how poor the quality of eating them is.

Makes no sense. Now they are forcing people to keep the bigger ones.

Change it to 4 and keep it to 16

Did you miss the change starting June 20th the new slot will be 18”-27” with zero over 27”??
Those 16” fish will be 18” before you know it, the sky isn’t falling man.

I wish it was 16-25", because the little ones taste/plate better and the larger ones might make it to spawning. But its not a bad change; 3 guys catching a dozen reds is still a good day on the water.

Guide Cannot Land (Boat) reds or trout legally. Can hook and hand rod to client to land.
Have had more than one client complain about guides who catch most of the boats limit and head to the dock.
I may have landed a red in the past couple months but can’t swear to it.
Stop whining and fish.

I can’t believe there’s a redfish left around big lake after the beating they’ve taken the past couple months
