I am looking for some recommendations on where to buy a wooden gun cabinet for 8 - 12 guns. Several local retailers sell either gun safes or metal gun cabinets. I would prefer a nice looking wooden cabinet with door locks and glass panes over some of the security benefits the others offer.

I could be super off on this (as most of the people I know back in my hometown, super small, have these) and I feel like they are either homemade by someone who does wood work or were from another time and not made as much anymore for security reasons. There has to be some people out there making them though. I just imagine the safe method has taken over the market.

Try sportsmans guide maybe?

If you want it to be pretty, any cabinet maker could make you a really nice one.

Those should be easy to find for sale. This because everyone is going to safe due to today's crime. I see them all the time in consignment shops.
Joie ( girl) has at least one over at S&S consign , over in mandeville.

The ones in stores generally suck. I'd find a local woodworker to build you one. You can get it made out of all kinds of hardwoods instead of getting some pine box. Hickory and Alder are cheap in Louisiana and I find myself pick those up over Birch or Maple which are much more popular but no better and much more expensive.

I have a converted armoire turned kinto a gun cabinet that is for sale. Holes 10 guns. Located in St. Mary Parish.

I can send picture but don't know how to post picture here.

Yeah a lot of the ones I've seen have looked like they were "pawpaw's gun cabinet." I would get a safe before a store bought wooden cabinet, but a hand made one can be a beautiful thing.

I made a gun cabinet out of walnut for my now late stepdad. He had several rifles and shotguns plus a few handguns to store in it.

It had 2 doors with glass panes, light on the inside to showcase the guns, the doors locked to keep little ones from getting into it but definitely not burglar proof with the glass inserts in the doors.

The bottom area was a large drawer that locked and was used to hold his ammo, holsters, cleaning kits, etc.

He had that cabinet until Katrina's floodwaters made it as high as the 2nd floor of his house in Chalmette and not long after that, he died of cancer.

I bought mine from an Amish furniture maker in Pennsylvania. Took a year to build but it's beautiful and made from black walnut. He shipped it to me as well. Check the interwebs.

Yep. Should be plenty of nice old pieces in antique shops and the like.
