Last 2 days of limits.

Easy money!

Note to self, pick up more Louisiana fish fry (lemon flavor). More than likely the last dig until October (if conditions allow) so everyone and their momma was out. Including this guy. Do what you love!

I'd love to try that one day. I bet they are way better cooked fresh.

One of the best outdoor activities everyone in the family can enjoy. It's a great time!

Only way really imo. Once frozen I commit them to chowder.

How do you cook them? Fried? Can you sauté them at all or pretty tough if not cooked very quickly.

We've been over this...

I am jealous. On day soon the tides and temps will be right.

Yes. Eta...I eat what I can fresh then whatever is frozen becomes chowder or dip.

No, I have to fry on pretty high heat or they become fairly tough.

Why? Purely on good conditions or does the fish n game regulate it strictly like red snapper?

Great to see the old guy out there. You know he probably has some good memories doing that from back in his prime.

Can you do this and crab anywhere in decent vicinity? This is on the beach obviously, are there bays with dungeness around? Would love to take a trip and Dungeness crab and do something like this also.

Buddy of mine married a girl from Tacoma and rented a big house on the bay. It had a shitty old row boat and an even shittier old crab pot, so the redneck in me had to toss the trap out of course. No one expected anything but me, we ended up catching 13 dungeness in 3 nights.

Came back from Portland for the bachelor party (I sober drove) at like 5:30am and I rowed out to check the trap as the sun came up. True redneck style, but well worth it.

Btw, freaking 20+ ft tides are insane.

They'll will spawn soon so they shut it down to protect them. They definitely regulate it (they regulate everything) as thousands of people dig clams. I don't think I've ever seen so many folks before.

When they open (oct at earliest) is based on the water conditions. Red tide or domoaic acid can happen with warm ocean conditions. The beaches get tested a couple times right before they approve a dig.

Last year was a bad year. It didn't open until January if I remember and there were only a couple digs approved.

Grays Harbor is right there. After clamming you could crab. It's opposite tides so you'd have plenty of time to get out and dump pots. Only 6 males are allowed per person though.

The clamming isn't as good but a good idea would be to clam Oregon, Sunset beach, then go crab the Columbia river. The crabbing is great and you can keep 12 with an Oregon shellfish license.

Yeah, that was cool. Just as cool seeing the young kids being taught to dig. This is literally the best outdoors activity I know of that everyone can be included without a lot of maintenance.

I ended up showing a single father what to do. Had 2 littles with him and saw me get 5 in a minute and mentioned he was new.

I showed him the easiest way and away he went spotting shows in the surf.

You ever find any geoducks? Asian people go crazy over those things.

No, but they have them in the Hood canal and Puget Sound. I know a guy who spear fishes so he picks up a couple while out.
