Is it safe to go to the trestles in Poncha train to fish with a 17 foot bass boat? If so, where is the best place to launch to get to the Trestle ‘s?

Watch the wind forecast. If it's over 10 mph, go somewhere else.

If the water is calm. I launched from Bonnabel yesterday but I have a 21 foot. Could have made it easily in bass boat yesterday. I think rigolets marina is close but maybe not safe for your catalytic converter. I would maybe launch at the Pointe marina in Slidell.

I've seen people out there in bass boats. Just got to be picky on your days based on the weather and don't get caught out there if it starts kicking up.

Launch at the Pointe Marina thats next to Eden Isles. Close by and its a really nice launch.

You're right. Me too. Don't want to get stuck in the lake with a long ways to go in a small boat.

When line was going out while casting I was feeling a slight shock through my finger from the static in the air. Strange feeling.

the Pointe is the best launch to get there fast. Bayou liberty marina is closeish but not so good launch. You could at least bass fish if the water is rough

Keep your VHF radio on. We saw the same forecast as everyone else and were out in Lake Robin when we heard the coast guard post the warning for Lake Borne.

That gave us enough time to get back to the marina before the shite hit us.

I never kept my radio on until that day and now I'll have it on all the time.

Be aware of the wind and the strength of the tide. You also have to be aware of ignorant people that will run their boat very close to you and produce large wakes.

I’ve fished the causeway and the trestles in a 14’ Boston whaler many times.

We did. Friday was the best day out of the three day weekend for us.

Your rig is sufficient, assuming it isn't windy (10+). Pointe Marina will put you close and nice facility; but it's off the beaten path. You may also consider launching at the Rogolets or Chef Pass and trek over to the bridges. Those two options will give you alternative (marsh) fishing options if the bridges are too crowded, too windy, too dirty, etc...

watch the wind and launch on north or south shore if thats the direction the wind is coming from so you can fish the calmer side
